I've posted some good books I discovered via Bluesky. This great wee book was a youtube find. It's full of rabbit holes of language including an intelligible, and so to me interesting, summary of the Great Vowel Shift. My thanks to @norsebysw.bsky.social for having @dannybate.com on his channel.
A few words in praise of Bluesky because without it I wouldn't have known about these books, all of which I enjoyed reading. My thanks to @helenebismarck.bsky.social @philipstephens.bsky.social and @rorycarroll72.bsky.social for taking the time and effort to write them.
One of the joys of social media is that @dannybate.bsky.social can recommend this (wonderful) Runes book, I can see the post, buy the book, read it and then post a thank you for alerting me to said wonderful book. #spreadalittlehappiness
Can't help on George M. Gibb, but I shoogled my brain cells and came up with the right book to answer the Selby Wright conundrum - and managed to find it on my bookshelves!
In Glasgow before Christmas and the sun highlighted this lady standing proudlly above Suachiehall St. Britannia, I presume. When in Glasgow, look up - within the bounds of road and pavement safety!
Spotted something hiding in plain sight in Glasgow yesterday, in Queen Street. Wiki suggests the mottos may be Clan Buchanan, so the CB may indicate that too, or not as the case may be. Can @walktalktours.bsky.social or any of the other Glasgow experts shed any light?
The book I ordered arrived at the shop today (helps keep the staff in a job) and, pausing only to take a pic, I'm really looking forward to reading it. Jackson Crawford says @dannybate.bsky.social is good and that's recommendation enough for me.
Out for a walk by the Water of Leith I encountered a couple of wee ducks. Cute.
The Scottish National Portrait Gallery has a quirky scheme where you can give a donation and link it to a character in the Processional Frieze in the Great Hall. My eye was caught the other day by George Buchanan and a donation made by Jo & Alison Elliot and it made me smile. Why?
