I really, really, really hated that batman movie, for more reasons than I could fit in the review. I even considered doing a multi part thread on why I hate the movie. No offense if you like the movie btw, just wasn't for me I guess.

Supergirl(1984)-honestly? Not great. The hindenburg- too long. Village of the Giants- stupid, but fun. The Batman- a rich white man who didn't have to earn his money saves a city from a scary fringe radical who hates corrupt cops. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched Reviews in comment reply below.

Ladybug ladybug
One of the most boring films I have ever seen in my entire life. Only got 3/4ths of the way through. 1/5

The curious female
I briefly skimmed over the blurb for this movie before i watched it and assumed it was a sci fi film from the 60s. I realized it was a campy sex comedy maybe 30 minutes in. I laughed and I was aroused so it did its job I guess. The basic concept for the film was legit interesting from a strict sci fi perspective and I liked the drug orgy scene. All of that being said it wasn't good by any means. 2/5

The electric state
There was so much wrong with this film, and the more I think about the film the less it makes sense. It's very obvious that someone just came up with this story on vibes and didn't actually think about the world building, the plot, or the characters in any meaningful way.

The backstory for the movie revolves around robot civil rights and one thing that really annoyed me was that only one person seemed to learn that racism was wrong by the end of the movie. Nobody else seemed to care one lick about them. The robots being discriminated against didn't even seem to care.

What did I like? The mail robot. Also if you turn your brain off the third act was entertaining. 0.5

The children's hour
This movie went to places I didn't expect it to go and the 2nd act hit. There was a clear set up and then everything happened like clockwork, the movie was paced well. I imagine that a lot of people were extremely upset when it was released given the content. Audrey Hepburn did a great job as the lead but Shirley MacLaine did an exceptional job as the co lead.

This movie deals with homosexuality but it doesn't really sit or marinate in the *gay rights* aspect so I think if the movie were released today some left leaning younger people might not like it. Simultaneously I think a lot of conservatives would call it woke. But I thought it was great. 4/5

Frankenstein and the monster from hell - I liked the personalization of the doctor in this movie. I think this movie had a lot if potential but not much was done with it. While it was ultimately mediocre I liked certain bits of it. 3/5⭐

First men in the moon- One of my favorite Sci fi movies! It's not good, but I loved the look of things and the general wonder and whimsy of the Alien civilization on the moon. This was based on a book by hg wells and it feels like hg wells mixed and matched various parts of his other stories to make this. First act is ok, then it really picks up. 3/5⭐

The fifth element- Chris tucker was great. While the visuals... clashed..? I guess the visual vibe was somewhat consistent. The story is so scattered- It actually wasn't a story as much as 3 side stories going on at once, and none of them were developed enough to feel meaningful in any way. The main story isn't confusing but they add so much to it that it ended up taking away from the film. Imo it would've been much better if the movie focused on a specific character or if the characters felt like a *team* more than a collection of individuals with no connection. There were plot holes. On top of all of that it felt very dated. *Of note, I did notice a few things that seemed to have directly inspired and influenced various bits of Japanese media, so I assume this movie was massive in Japan. 1.75/5⭐

Rosemary's baby- I feel like this was a bit much for the 60s. Would've been better if instead of the shock and awe route they went with a more serious narrative route. Overall though I found this very very mediocre. Like I didn't really have strong feelings either way about this movie. Wasn't exactly impressed or dejected or horrified or upset. Didn't feel like laughing or crying or looking away. Didn't stir any emotions or deep thoughts in me. The ending was a bit of a letdown tho. 3/5⭐

Star knight- Really liked the first 20 or so minutes. Then the second act kind of meandered. Then the resolution was anticlimactic and had no weight to it. I liked how it attempted to blend genres in a way I had never seen before, and while I appreciate that it was trying to do something different I just don't think it was done well. The story, despite being original, was nothing but a vehicle for the movie rather than a well structured narrative. If they really leaned into the romance aspect, that plus the general originality could've bumped this up to a 3 out of 5. 2/5 ⭐

Big brother- Wholesome. Went on a bit too long and I wish there were more action scenes. 2.5/5⭐

Knock at the cabin- I liked how original this film was. Kept me guessing and some scenes were shot well imo- the visual composition of some bits were better than I thought they would be. Act 2 boredom blues hit harder than they should have and with all due respect to Batista I think this wasn't the role for him. Overall it was solid. Interesting perspectives on humanity near the end. 4/5⭐

Michael - Inspirational. I was surprised that Jafar Jackson(iirc thats Jermaine Jackson's[of the Jackson 5] son so Michael's nephew) did so well in the titular role. He can sing, dance, and act just fine. Coleman Domingo and Nia Long were very believable in their roles. I think the film did a good job of getting across the picture of Micheal as a person. At the same time I would've rather it went deeper into his life, relationships(with friends, family, and the media), and how he viewed his race. But for what it was it was great. Part of what made the movie so enjoyable was his music and the people singing in the theater probably felt the same. Even though I only gave it 3.5 stars it was a very enjoyable 3.5 stars and I'll likely watch this again.

Sisu 2- This reminds me of a B-movie but not in a good way. It doesn't lean into its campiness in a way that does it justice and just ends up feeling kind of dumb. Also killing soviet soldiers doesn't have the same oomf as killing nazis(as in the first sisu). My favorite scene was one that was very... reminiscent..? of mad max fury road. I understand that nothing is made in a vacuum and everything influences everything else but.. it was a little too close for comfort. 2/5⭐

Meltdown(called high risk in some places) - Great action scenes! Seriously look them up on YouTube. Besides that the story was something I feel I've seen multiple other times and done better than that almost every single time. I get that it was supposed to be a parody but it wasn't done well. Jacky Cheung's scene at the end was awesome and I genuinely wish he had more fight scenes in this film. 3/5⭐

Dune(84, not the newer one)- I LOVE the look of this film. It definitely could have adapted the book better but I genuinely enjoyed this and I have respect for the ambition the filmmakers must have had to do this. Special effects were great for the time and the setpieces were epic. My main issues were that the main character is a bit of a Gary Stu and I think certain elements of the setting should be explained more to make the story more readable. (Which to be fair are problems I had with the book.) There was a lot going on and I tend to think that if you haven't read the book you'd be more than a bit lost. 3.62/5⭐

Parents- Has a distinct vibe. I really liked the juxtaposition of music with what's going on, and some of the scenes made me uncomfortable. I genuinely think that the person who made this was working through childhood trauma. Imo it wasn't understated like most older horror movies or overstated like most horror movies today. I liked it. 3/5⭐
