-> more policymakers will understand that something needs to be done, and the house of cards that these social media companies have built throughout the last few decades will start to collapse. 2) This case demands Meta to do structural changes. So beyond the financial damage ->
Then he uses the popular argument of tech ceos of the moment - we need to have checks & balances u should regulate this technology! But also we are going to spend lobbying money to ensure you don't do that, and make a deal with Trump that whenever your country will do that you will be tariffed 😉
Here Zuckerberg tries to sell us that ppl should decide what matters to them! So if u want to change your privacy settings on META products you should just go through 580 steps & then it will go back to the default setting of screwing you over. Everyone should have power just not on his platforms ->
💜 Big shout-out to the wonderful organisers @zoetanja.bsky.social, Harry Dyer, @devinasarwatay.bsky.social @markwong.bsky.social @estebanmoro.bsky.social and others I may have forgotten. For the thoughtful organising - from pre conference emails with super useful info.
It was also a pleasure to present together with my brilliant friends and colleagues Anna Feigenbaum and @photini.bsky.social our work on the AI Citizenship game that we're still working on and hopefully can share more soon 🤩 #SMSociety 2026 ->
3. My brilliant PhD Liv Owens workshop with her colleague Chiara Fehr on collaging the datafied self. -> #SMSociety 2026
2. @devinasarwatay.bsky.social - talk about how online games become more similar to platforms logic calling them super games. Devina is going to be my new colleague at the Sociology and Criminology department, so I'm very excited about that! 😍 #SMSociety 2026
The same goes for research, scholars are expected to get grants as if it's an equal playing field, even though Russell Group Universities get the majority of grants because they have more supprt from grant experts. UKRI just announced two new AI labs, ans you can guess where they will be housed ->
Will I finally be able to see Faith No More them after their cancelled 2022 gig in London??? 👀
Just seen in Bricklane East London. Anyone knows this group? The Radical Anti Smartphone Front (RASF?)
I've been saying for a long time that AI tools promote shortcuts and by doing so skip the learning experience which involves persistence (like the article linked here suggests), but also making mistakes and learning how to solve a problem in a way that makes sense to you -> arxiv.org/pdf/2604.04721
4. I'm being constantly targeted on LinkedIn by Qualtrics which says "No focus groups? No problem! Why AI is replacing human respondents". Which intensifies all the previous ethical issues, only now because people want fast and cheap research they are willing to give up the humans.
So Anthropic stole the idea for their Claude ads against ChatGPT from Black Mirror's new season, first episode "Common People". But do they think that Claude is not just a different episode of Black Mirror?
Interesting that despite people indicating in THEIR OWN POLL that they DON'T WANT AI in their search engine, DuckDuckGo still develops this option? Why? 🤷♀️
After announcing it in the summer, today the UK government launched free training courses to AI upskill workers. It's free because it's funded by big-tech companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and others, and not by local organisations in the UK who have been working with communities->
Whoever is doing Ryanair social media needs to get a raise immediately.
Whoa! Yesterday I had the privilege of seeing a preview of the film Molly vs. THE MACHINES. I will be honest that I thought it would fall to the usual script of documentaries but it really blew my mind! ->
Good to see that Apple is promoting its notorious privacy first approach on its streaimg service... 🫠 I especially love the choice I have to press that one button.
The man, the space cowboy, the legend and the hat, Jamiroquai in London!
I had such an amazing time at the event Ofcom organized together with the Technology, Internet and Policy (TIP), on future directions for academic research! Thanks for inviting me to speak about my work & to talk to brilliant scholars working in the space of AI, mis-dis-information & online harms->
Really enjoyed going to the Finnish Embassy today for their event "The Finnish Recipe – Strengthening Societal Resilience with Media Literacy". Key points were around integrating media literacy as a holistic approach rather than an add-on, separate subject ->
This AI Implementation Bingo Card Generator is so close to home 🥲 www.workersdecide.tech/bingo/
Excited to hear the keynote talk from Prof. Jose van Dijck at the 20th anniversary of @zemki.bsky.social at Bremen.
If you need your dog to chew on something, apparently, there's an Elon for it...
Incredible exhibition for the new Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein film at Selfridges today, but we will also go watch it at the cinema later today!
A real shame they didn't bring back Jesse Eisenberg, who was an amazing Zuckerberg.... Sorry I don't think Strong will manage to be as good...
