Was lucky enough to see Messi score in person. January 7, 2018, Nou. Amazing.
I like to vote in person on Election Day, but today I joined many SC residents in voting early. The mood was cheerfully serious.
Percival Everett at The Open Book: today, 6 pm, Johnson Performance Hall, Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina. (Though registration is sold out, walk-ins will be offered any seats still open at 5:45 pm. Entrance is free.)
Julia Phillips speaks at The Open Book today at 6 pm. Campus Room, Capstone Building, University of South Carolina. She's awesome, it's free, and there will be snacks.
Ross Gay speaks tomorrow evening at the University of South Carolina: Campus Room, Capstone Building, 6-7 pm, followed by book signing and refreshments. Free and open to all!
These guys walked right through my neighborhood today, so my dogs got to see Aloka the Peace Dog. (I also saw a total eclipse on this same corner, back when, so a surprisingly eventful location.)
I loved the (small amount of) time I spent in Northern Cypress and the people I met there. Pleased to see a pro-reunification candidate winning.
I’ve made some challenging trips to Tuscaloosa in recent years, and this is probably the penultimate. Grateful to the University of Alabama Arboretum for serving as oasis.
After the rainstorm. (Columbia, South Carolina, this morning.)
Looks like tomorrow is canning day. (That’s about a tenth of what I just picked, and the tree is still going strong.)
Lord Huron put on a solid show at the High Water Festival last night. (Also enjoyed Mt. Joy and Amos Lee.) Heading back for more bands today, then back to the doomscroll life or maybe I’ll figure out how to really use my phone camera.
Dogs like the new shed, which my husband is building solo from scratch, concrete piers and all. (Our skills don’t overlap much, which is perfect.)
Here’s the young copperhead that my dogs’ faces were a quarter inch from just now. Pulled them back just in time. Will work out the metaphor later.
Spotted this morning, Columbia, South Carolina, while walking my dogs.
You’ve been kidnapped. The characters of the last tv show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who is coming to save you? (Liking my rescue changes.)
Marked the end of the year with my daughter over a fabulous meal in Panama City. Tomorrow will be a gap day of airports and planes. Then it’s time to face up to 2025. Let’s be brave.
Crossed some choppy waves to see an island of birds and a beach of starfish.
Post someone you've been told you look like who you definitely don't look like. (In fairness, I did have this haircut and pout a lot at 21.)
