“It’s a book trope,” I said.

Text reads: "My high school career started in just a week. I didn’t have a plan. It was in an expensive private school in the middle of the city. That I knew no one at, all because my best friend was supposedly too childish and impulsive for the two of us to be together.
The only person I have to find comfort in with Jenna gone was Granny.
And she was catatonic. For most of my childhood. Completely and totally silent and non-reactive.
I didn’t understand catatonia when it first happened; I still didn’t quite grasp it now. All I knew was at just five years old, she went from my lively grandmother who I was spending most hours with, to unable to do anything without guidance.
All I knew is it hurt.
All I knew was I likely did something to cause it.
If either of us deserved to be catatonic, it was me. My dad seemed to think so.
But that isn’t the story I have to tell. I survived and Granny moved here. She saw me grow up from a locked unit. And I lost touch with all the stories she used to tell outside of the few Analei recorded for me, mostly left to interpret hundreds of pages of worldbuilding and notes and starts of ideas if I ever wanted that comfort again."

#writingcommunity... no one needs to see this or red this but its a piece of my book that has been here from draft one that needs to be deleted. So this is its graveyard 😅

The audiobook began to ramp up to the rising tension, though I didn’t pause to listen. I had already listened to the book. Many times before. The masterpiece that was The Named Ones Chronicles, the beginning of a series that would span six books, seven movies, and basically my entire childhood. The last movie came out last year, just in time to move up to high school.
“Your name, it is more than just a label, it is a legacy of all those who come before you, and all you can become,” I said, just as the main character’s cruel teacher said it.
I submerged my hands, feeling around the sink for the rest of the silverware. The crusted on food met the sponge, and got tossed into the tray with the rest of them. Repeat.
“Well then I reject that name. I will lead my own life, not live in the shadow of my father,” I said, trying to lower my voice to imitate Harold correctly.
The three pans, one pot, and two baking sheets required to make dinner still laid scattered around the kitchen. I collected slowly, extending a spatula in front of me like a sword.
“Legacies cling to all of us, if you refuse your path you will be cast aside in the eyes of the Gods,” I spit.
I lowered the spatula and tilted my head back, like it was being lifted by the sword. “The Gods have no voice without me, they will either follow me as I carve my own path or I shall be the one casting them aside.”
Note: Local idiot say this is too obvious and does not believe it is real book dialogue, no matter what I show them. Maybe he should read better books.
Note 2: Not a good comeback, he simply said he was and made it gushy.
“Marge, keep it down, I can’t hear the TV,” my dad yelled from the living room.
I bet it was a lot easier for Harold considering his father was dead, and left him a ton of gold that allowed him to basically say whatever he wanted to the people trying to confine him. And do anything. And go anywhere. Messages from children’s books were good life lessons, but I was beginning to realize …

#writingcommunity, I have made a map for my high fantasy book! It's the Created World, with the Iron Court often isolated from the politics of the rest of the world...

A fantasy map made up of six different colors to differentiate the six different countries across the continent. The gray Vesia is in the middle, with the deep blue Iron Court separated by mountains. To the left is the maroon Nuwan, and beneath that is the pale yellow Hagia. Under Vesia and to the right of Hagia is Waterbank in blue. And the furthest to the right is the yellow Chirani.
