#FridayFling context: at this point in the novel, Daniel thinks Tal is a man. (Tal cross dresses; I don't know if I'd call her gender fluid, but she definitely doesn't feel as if she is a woman as she knows them to be)

What would it be like, if Tal shared the same interest that currently rattled the pulse in Daniel’s throat? Would his lips taste like coffee? Would his kisses be shy or eager? Was Daniel grasping for normalcy, or did he want the steamcoach to slow down and allow him more time to hold Tal, to soak in his lilac and moss soap clinging to his skin? To study the softness of his jaw, unusually clear, free of any nicks or stubble. To trace the constellation of freckles by Tal’s eye.

This is why taxes suck in the USA. It's not just Intuit. It's Congress using the code to enrich themselves and their donors and making it ridiculously complicated. They also use it to social engineer.

The National Taxpayers Union Foundation estimates that Americans will spend 6.9 billion hours complying with the tax code for their 2025 returns, at a total cost of more than $477 billion. That inclides the $320 billion in lost time and at least $157 bn in out of pocket costs for software, preparers, and other filing expenses. The group estimates that the burden has eased from its 2023 peak but it also argues that Congress keeps making the code harder to navigate with 9630 tax-law changes since 2000.

AI Chatbots still struggle with tax prep when accuracy matters most - A NY Times test put 4 AI chatbots through 9 fictional tax scenarios and found they frequently missed key details, miscalculating refunds or balances due by more than $2,000. Traditional tax software is built around if-then procedures; LLMs are optimzed to generate plausible texts and can drift when many interlocking rules and forms must be handled. For now, AI may be better suited to explaining forms and concepts than preparing a return without careful human review

If you are trying to file your taxes today and you're worried you are missing a document, go to your Document Tab in your IRS Tax Account. It should have everything (but it won't have state withholding!) If you don't have an IRS account, having one is a decent idea.
