Watching France-Spain on a big screen on a French campsite on Bastille Day, and the locals aren’t happy. Still only half-time, no need to panic and wreck the gaff just yet. Allez les extra-time and penos.
What’s really noticeable is the traffic calming, ramps, reduced speed limits, which are everywhere. Even on busy 80kph roads, when you reach a village, you simply have to slow down. And majority of drivers obey speed limits. If the Irish Gov were serious about #RoadSafety, this is the answer.
Cycling around Finistère, #Brittany. There’s lots of hidden cycle routes if you know where to look. First pic here is #EuroVelo Route 4. It’s not a through road but a cycle lane running between fields, of which there’s lots. Explored around the coast; ended up through some fields; and down the beach
🇫🇷 Morlaix markets and more. Seriously impressive viaduct dominating the town.
France beaches are beaching. Grateful to be in Brittany where have heard people say sure it’s just like good Irish weather (well kinda not really, very hot but not too hot), and not further south in those mad heatwaves.
On holiday in France and trying to keep a track of the #TourDeFrance on the official app, and it’s disappointing to see they keep trying to push you toward a fascist promoting misinformation website. Wtf are they still doing there #TDF2026
Another brilliant performance from the Dubs. Some finish to that match, Galway 6 points up with 15 minutes to go, but Dublin never panicked. Warriors like Scully and Kilkenny never gave up. Bring on The Kingdom. So much for a rebuilding season. #GAA
Even managed to get my hands on one of these spectacular gig posters inspired by the great Phil Lynott. 🎨 Art by Metal Mongrol (with Phil illustration done by Jim Fitzpatrick I believe)
#Metallica night two was even better (although it shouldn’t be taken as two different gigs, really the same gig just over two nights). For Whom the Bell Tolls, One, The Unforgiven, & covers of Whiskey and Dirty Old town were the stand outs for me (yeh, I wore the Dublin jersey, it was a long day!) 🤘
Shirts v Skins pop-up jersey shop at the Bernard Shaw in Phibsborough, some great quality retro kits 👌
#Metallica at the Aviva night one was a blast, but I can’t wait for Sunday 🤘
New ‘Blackwater River Town Bridge and Cycleway’ open today, linking the local park with coffee shops, and access into Navan town centre, and the #BVLGreenway at the other end.
#Wicklow200 Great day out in the Wicklow Mountains. Pure torture, of course, but still great.
The fact that social media allows any person to easily create an account, not use any verification or real form of ID, then post hateful and racist comments without any repercussion whatsoever is insane. On FB the Gardai saying they are deleting derogatory comments - fair play, but is that enough?
The Black Lodge, on the outskirts of Dunsany Nature Reserve. Up the road at end is where the proposed #NavanRail will run.
Superb work from Italian sports magazine Ultimo Uomo. An entire magazine dedicated to the politics of football and the corruption of FIFA, Infantino and the US regime. #WorldCup www.under.media/prodotto/ult...
Which Fianna Fáil Minster for Transport done in better? Left, in 2009, Noel Dempsey; or right, in 2026, Darragh O'Brien #NavanRail
Two new Navan stations. The route begins at a new station located to the south of Ratholdren Road, opposite the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway. How many new visitors to the greenway (& to Navan) is it going to bring... just hop on the train from Dublin and it brings you right to the greenway 😍
As expected, there will be 4 new stations at Dunshaughlin, Kilmessan, Navan Central and Navan North, with 3 new three park and ride locations. Extension of Dart+ to Navan, 34km of new tracks, approx a hour journey, and 'up to 63,000 people within a 30 minute walk, cycle or drive of a station'
The official Emerging Preferred Route for the #NavanRail has been published by Iarnród Éireann. www.irishrail.ie/en-ie/news/p...
As for Navan, needless to say #NavanRail is desperately needed, and has been for 20 years. Two new stations will be built. The first will be Navan Central on the Trim Road, as part of a town expansion 'urban quarter'. The second will be in north Navan, opposite the entrance to the #BVLGreenway
The old route literally doesn't exist in other places as well, such as Kilmessan, where there's a housing estate, and a hotel. What happens there? Will there be CPOs, or an alignment change, or overpasses? There are potentially 2 new overpasses required over the M3, & a new bridge over the Boyne.
One of the biggest issues – aside from constant delays – will be Dunsany Nature Reserve. 100s of submission in the NTA's Greater Dublin Area 2022-42 strategy (of which the rail line was included) were objecting to the route, which runs through the middle of the reserve which was rewilded years ago.
🛤️ Emerging preferred route for the Navan-Dublin rail line will be announced next week, according to Minister Buttimer. Good news at last. This version of the #NavanRail officially got underway in Nov 24, with the EPR due in Dec 25 (so just the 6 months behind schedule). Railway Order in 2028. 🧵
