I really loved Babel. So much so that I’ve since bought it for a couple of people as a gift, and that I’m currently reading another by the same author.

The lurgy finally got me this week but we still managed to head out last night for a night of utter silliness at the wrestling.

Two wrestlers grappling while one is is mid-air having leapt down from the corner post. Someone better than me would know the proper technical terms…

Another tag team bout. This one featuring hot dog costumes. Sadly my shouts of “let’s go hotdogs!” did nothing to change the inevitable result.

The final match was utter chaos. 13 wrestler eliminator round. Lots more stupid fancy dress, but obviously my favourite was the T-Rex. Amazingly he did manage to flip someone over the top rope in spite of his tiny arms, but was then eliminated himself.

Did you get the 100% safe and not in any way terrifying little rollercoaster back down? Hope you have a brilliant trip.

The little rollercoaster you can take down from the Great Wall of China if you go to the super touristy section. The rollercoaster consists of a single line of colourful plastic chairs on a track. Even the lady controlling the line looks a bit dubious about it. We survived though.

Having told @teakayb.mathsy.space that people would definitely want to come to his session, I really had to choose it for session 5! Loved hearing about the research Tom and Jason carried out about embedding history into maths lessons. I’m also looking forward to reading Tom’s book #MathsConf39

It’s all about place value
No between 1 and 10, it’s all about significance.
Introduce with number sentences.
Give a chance to talk indices early on.

Buying the Saga Deluxe Hardcovers seemed like such a good idea when I started. I really wasn’t anticipating a 6 year gap between books. Need to schedule in a re-read over Easter or something.

Happy Birthday! We ended up paying a visit to Highgate Cemetery at the weekend and had to explain the bad maths on Douglas Adams’ gravestone.

I’m part of a ladies beer group. We have a social once a month. Often I find myself thinking things like “I’m not sure I’m really up for this today” and then have a brilliant night chatting and cackling with wonderful ladies I probably never would’ve met otherwise.

We went to see TV on the Radio at the Albert Hall in Manchester last night. Something so powerful about howling along to Wolf Like Me with a mass of people. Didn’t realise how much I needed it. When I’m in charge they’ll be able to prescribe gigs on the NHS 😉

Really enjoyed Nine Inch Nails last night, even though we were watching from another postcode. Great staging and enough old songs to keep me happy.
