Kyiv. Charred cars in one of the most impacted streets of Lukianivka district. Hundreds of windows were shattered, a building was set on fire.
Apocalyptic Lukianivka, once more targeted by Russia. Workers are already clearing the rubble here. This is not new, but nothing remains from the covered market, which was already destroyed by a previous strike. Friends of mine live ~100m from the site of the impact, none had time to go to safety.
Kyiv, Lukianivska station, this morning. Russia fired 31 ballistic missiles qui 8 Zirkon missiles on the Ukrainian capital.
🇺🇦 Ukraine, Day 3 of the protests: Why are veterans taking part? Because they want Syrskyi out. To understand why, please listen to Anton, who got severely injured in combat. Despite having lost three limbs, an eye and suffering from shrapnel wounds, he came to Granka Square: (Translation below) 1/
🇺🇦 Day 3 of protests in Kyiv: Franka Square is already full of people, even if the protest begins only at 8pm. Three main demands from the people to Volodymyr Zelensky: *Fedorov back, as MinDef *Syrskyi out *Parliament back (lots of cardboards ask if soldiers took might get a holiday)
🇺🇦 Day 2 of Kyiv protests following Fedorov's removal. People are furious & determined to be heard. The reshuffle plunged the country in uncertainty - and the interim Defense Minister, while widely respected, is also not supposed, as a military, to hold an office that should be held by a civilian.
🇺🇦 Kyiv tonight✌️While the Rada went in recess (one month summer break), Ukrainians take zero holiday from defending their democracy. Here, they chant "Syrskyi out!". They want the Commander in Chief gone and Mykhailo Fedorov back.
🇺🇦 Here in Kharkiv, hundreds of people have gathered this morning to protest the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Across the country, thousands have taken to the streets to express their dismay and disapproval with the presidential's decision to remove Ukraine's most popular minister.
🇺🇦 This map shows the dozens of missiles that fled towards mostly Kyiv and Odesa, and only a fraction of dronea launched against Ukraine. The monitoring channel attributes, as do Ukrainian authorities, the extent of destruction to the lack of sufficient air defense. 📸 Source: TG Channel Monitorwar
In Kyiv, rescuers are on site to try and save as many lives as possible. The death toll has increased to 9 and 43 people were injured, including 2 children. At least 15 residential buildings were damaged or destroyed. This cat has just survived Russia's attack. 📸 State emergency services
Again, civilians in Kyiv were targeted by Russia. Moscow, unable to fulfill its objectives of territorial conquest militarily, launches dozens of missiles and drones to destroy Ukraine and its people instead. 📸 State Emergency Services
🇺🇦 Back at work this morning. Yesterday, I filed 17 reports in 3 languages, from 3am to 10pm, on 3 continents, about Russia's large-scale attack against Kyiv, about Ukraine's strikes on russian & occupied territory. I didn't have time to share it all on social media as I was working on site.
Darnytsia, one of the numerous sites hit overnight by Russia. This was a residential building.
🔊 How it feels to hear explosions all around you, knowing that your city is being destroyed. See, or rather listen for yourself. Kyiv is experiencing yet again one of those awful nights. There are plumes of smoke all over the city. The alert is ongoing.
Escapism/denial/survival: sleeping bag, cushion, book. My doctor told me today that I should avoid stressful situation 🥲
Ukraine's authorities have released pictures of one of the missiles Russia used to attack Kyiv overnight. There were fires in Darnytsia district, and two people got injured. This time, in total, Moscow used six ballistic missiles and almost 150 drones against Ukraine.
🔊 Ukraine nights: I'm up since 2am, when the explosions of russian missiles rang over Kyiv. After the air raid, adrenaline kept me up. As I was about to go for a walk (curfew is lifted at 5am), we had another, short air raid alert, with birds singing this time. This is how a Kyiv morning sounds 👇
Yes there was also a far right gathering against the Kyiv Pride, I had to go through it before reaching the Pride. I can say that there was a huge police presence & a lot of anti-riots fences to prevent far-right violence. Ukraine also knows that its image on the world stage is at stake here.
🌈 Kyiv Pride is interrupted by an air raid alert. Russia relentlessly attacking Ukraine. People are asked to take shelter in the nearest subway station.
🌈🇺🇦 Kyiv Pride, today. Just imagine, we are under martial law, but the gathering is allowed, because we live in a democracy and people show up to advocate for their basic human rights. Not something you could see in Moscow.
On top of small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs etc..), the elephants enclosure was also damaged.
🔴 TW Animal suffering: Russia has struck the Kharkiv Zoo with a drone this afternoon. It hit near a small animals enclosure and there are dead animals, said Zoo Deputy director Karina Detiuk, to Suspilne. The zoo is still assessing the damage. 📸 Suspilne Kharkiv
🕯 Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov also announced the death of a fifth firefighter, Alexei Dorozhkin, who he called "one of the best professionals in his field", also in a russian double-tap. He was 40, married and had a one-year-old daughter. 2/
🕯️The four firefighters killed by Russia in a double-tap while responding to an initial strike in Kharkiv: ▪️Division commander, senior sergeant of the civil defense service Dmytro Boyko ▪️Sergeant Danilo Tishchenko ▪️Sergeant Sergey Makovetsky ▪️Driver, master sergeant Vadim Zinchenko. 📸 DSNS 1/
Kyiv's Dormition Cathedral this morning. 📸 Ukraine's state emergency services.
🔴 Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced that five rescuers from State Emergency Services were killed in Kharkiv, and another five injured, while working to extinguish a fire on one of the sites struck by Russia. 📷Sate Emergency Services of Ukraine
