@emmasarappo
a books editor at The Atlantic and spreadsheet lady for its union. once described as "friendly" on eBird
speaking of "New York New Jersey" and New York claiming shit that by rights is in Jersey... let's wake THIS up...
SF has this problem too. the most insane place i ever saw a HUGEEEEE dog was a vintage home goods store on valencia. it pissed me off SO bad i just google map-walked up and down valencia looking for the store. look at this. huge ass BEAST inside. be serious!!! www.curbed.com/article/dogs...
Thank God none of my writing about this book from 2016 was published, though, in part because I was incapable of addressing what Hoby does here (though mostly because it would have been horrifically exposing of a deeply 19-year-old perspective)
the 30th anni of Infinite Jest means 10 years of committed Jestheadism on my part: I picked it up as a depressed pothead; like Hermione Hoby writes, "I was unaware that I was committing a form of gender treason; I knew only that little or nothing I’d read had come close in terms of sheer pleasure."
Imagine your team lost and you’re walking home kinda sad drunk and you see this. Wyd.
@washingtonspirit.com I love you so much this was me waiting in line for a full capacity bar (I got in) (don’t let me down)
It's a big lift to do a project like this but lots of my closest friends have started having kids. I just kept reminding myself... www.theatlantic.com/books/2025/1...
10 years ago today, the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage was legal across the U.S. I remember that day very clearly—waking up to the news, calling my best friend. Many in Gen Z might not. I wrote about the weird intervening decade for @theatlantic.com www.theatlantic.com/culture/arch...
8 year anniversary of Emma Sarappo Has Fallen Down the Stairs at the Dillo Day Gala. I was not drunk. I was simply an undergrad wearing bean boots on carpeted stairs. No one believed me (understandably). Somehow no concussion. Incredible stuff
I’ve recently gotten into birding. Today while out my phone died. I am proud to share a scientific illustration of the bird, created with great care and skill, that led to an authentic bird ID this evening. Thank you.
My wife and I spent the weekend covered in sweat assembling a flat packed queen Murphy bed that turns into a bookshelf and I have never #UNDERSTOOD this tweet more
A new thing I'm going to do is post reaction images to something I saw or read without any context to what I'm reacting to. So today I feel like
