An ancient oak stands among other trees and a number of gravestones in a very old Jewish cemetery. It is a peaceful scene: sunlight falls through the canopy of leaves, tracing patterns on the tall grass that grows beneath the trees. Here, on the outskirts of a small town, it is quiet. At times, gusty summer winds sweep through the crown of leaves. The old inscriptions on the gravestones are in places barely legible.

A sunset over the Baltic Sea. The sea occupies the lower third. It is dark blue to black, white wave crests are visible. A dense, dark cloud cover takes up the upper third of the image. The sunset itself unfolds in the central part of the photo: on the right, behind a thin veil of cloud, the yellow sun. The clouds shift in colour from yellow to orange, and in the distance light streaks of misty clouds can be seen. The horizon appears as a sharp line that separates the warm tones of the sinking sun from the cool colours of the sea.

The photograph depicts the building of a former textile company. The elongated structure is captured in its entirety. A small turret in the centre visually divides the building into two halves. In reality, the turret is merely an architectural hint on the façade, a playful use of form. The photograph shows the state of the building long after the company ceased operations.

A round arch built from large natural stones with a closed, heavy grilled door. Through the bars you can see a rising staircase covered with remnants of autumn leaves, which has evidently not been used for a long time. The staircase leads up to another part of the garden, where you can see trees and the fresh spring-green foliage of shrubs bathed in sunlight.

Brimstone #butterfly on a #lavender blossom. These butterflies can live for 12 to 13 months. They can survive extremely low winter temperatures of down to – 20 degrees Celsius. #ECK #Scape #GardenScape #photography #nature #naturephotography #garden #June #Zitronenfalter

A presumably female brimstone butterfly is collecting nectar from a lavender flower. It is positioned on the left side of the bloom. The butterfly's proboscis is inserted into one of the florets. We view the pale yellow wing and body from the side. The eye and antennae are clearly discernible, as are the insect's yellow legs. Individual veins stand out distinctly across the wing.
By late morning (when I took the picture), it's already nearly 30 degrees Celsius. This June heatwave is unbearable. I do hope the butterflies are resilient enough for these temperatures.

The building of the old brick factory not far away from my parents' house. It once marked the very edge of my childhood universe. #ColorADay #RedWed #photography #MobilePhotography My childhood universe is gone, but the factory is still there.

The building, constructed of red bricks from an old brick factory, is visible only partially in the frame. The elongated flat-roofed structure looms like a tall wall before the camera. Two square windows are set into the upper third of the building, whilst two white shutters can be seen in the lower third. The intensely red, towering wall leaves the viewer with a rather forbidding and distinctly unpleasant impression.

On the windowsill of a tall window, there are three flower pots, secured by a grille that surrounds the sill. In the left flower pot, which already draws attention with its bright red colour, a small lemon tree is growing. Despite its relatively modest size, it already bears a few large lemons – and this in the still chilly month of March. Here resides a Parisian with a green thumb… (or with green fingers, as the English put it)
