This informs how different groups approach complexity: as something to approach with honor, respect, and care, or something waiting for a bold leader to cut through. For example, when fascists use images of the knot (both Franco and Mussolini) it's always a tangle.
I'm accidentally getting some art criticism as I teach systems thinking. What is the difference between a problem being needlessly complex, and being honorably complex? Historical depictions of the Gordian knot vary in whether it's shown as symmetric or a tangle.
