Pat Conroy was a white southern man who got fired for trying to educate Gullah children, wrote about his own trauma surviving an abusive military father and an education at the Citadel, and befriended gay men and couldn't ignore a damsel in distress. It was an honor to sit in his chair at his desk.

This is the best title for a book I've seen this year. It instantly made me want to read it.

First book read (well, actually finished, as I started reading it last year) in 2025 is Alan Jacobs' The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of Distraction. Perhaps not for everyone, but for those of us trying to rekindle (pun intended) our love of reading, quite insightful.
