While his role in Titanic was impressive, I am strongly against Leonardo DiCaprio getting his own Euro banknote. Leo da Vinci on the other hand... @theobserveruk.bsky.social
Anybody know what's happening at the old Frankfield golf course next to the Kinsale Rd roundabout?

It is too hot to do any actual work in the garden. Monitoring it from the shade.
Now that the space at the end of South Mall has re-opened I'll come back to my old hobby-horse of where 'City' by Pat O'Sullivan has moved to? I've not seen the space in person but doesn't look like this Cork 800 work has made the cut. Any idea where it is? @oliver.ie @michaelwaldron.bsky.social
Great to talk about my plant pathology #SciArt work with @crawfordartgallery.bsky.social today at the #iCASE conference. A great meeting. Wonderfully organised by Dr Declan Kennedy et al. Well done to all involved.
RTE committed to establish a Climate Unit in Cork in 2026 as part of RTE News and Current Affairs. It would be good to see an update on whether that has been delivered and if not, when? @news.rte.ie @rte.ie
Congratulations to Sana Batool Bangash who was conferred today with a Masters of Research (MRes) in Plant Biology. Sana's work on alternative strawberry production systems using aeroponics was a pleasure to supervise along with my co-supervisor @barbaradp.bsky.social Well done Sana!
We're at the Cork Carnival of Science this weekend in Fitzgerald Park. Our stand is jam-packed with science (and scientists!)

I'll be at #BordBiaBloom on Sunday this year. Speaking on the Sustainable Living Stage in the afternoon at about 3.45pm. If you're there, come and say hello. If nothing else, to see what botanically-themed shirt I'll wear!
Some dodgy photos from my visit a few years ago, but you get the idea...
Very interesting pilot programme here to provide new planting (although no further trees) to St. Patrick Street #Cork. Deserves to be supported (link to consultation below) although the key will be WHAT is planted and how it is maintained. Welcome new seating too consult.corkcity.ie/en/consultat...
Cork City Council have announced this evening that they have paid BAM €35 million for the Counting House as a new home to for the City Library. Where's the Counting House? You know the place...right next to the Event Centre.
I am absolutely here for @oliver.ie 's motion at tonight's Cork City Council meeting (referred to a relevant committee).
Watched the last episode of Young Offenders. Lovely tribute to a legendary internet moment

We have reached the stage in the marking process where I consume an entire pack of wine gums in one sitting.
I've been around long enough to see many of these consultations come and go. In some ways, this is the most progressive and sustainable of any I've seen (although it is somewhat predicated by the loss of the River Bride to the misguided OPW works which is a major negative). Food for thought.
If you're interested in the future direction of the heart of Blackpool, you may be interested in attending this event tomorrow and/or completing the short consultation document here: consult.corkcity.ie/en/content/b...
