Summer tip from rescued horses Gloria & Rocket Man: Staying hydrated is more fun with a friend! Horses drink between 5 & 15 gallons of water daily, sometimes more when it's hot ☀️ We regularly check water troughs throughout the day to ensure our equines always have access to clean water.

Yesterday, EA President Susan Wagner spoke before the NYC Council in support of “Romanch’s Law” (Intro 943), which would ban horse-drawn carriages in the city & prohibit the sale/transfer of these horses for slaughter. This inhumane business needs to end before more lives, human or horse, are lost.

The time has come for New Yorkers to show up & protect carriage horses! Tomorrow, Wed. July 15th, a rally & hearing will be held at City Hall regarding the passage of Romanch’s Law, which would ban horse-drawn carriages in NYC. We'll be there & hope to see you too! Read more: conta.cc/4fgGwmA

Happy July 4th! Today, we celebrate America’s 250th birthday by thanking the brave & noble equines throughout our history, without whom today would not be possible. We owe horses a debt of gratitude & that should include the passage of federal legislation protecting all equines from slaughter!

Meet our newest rescue, Felix! Felix is a Standard Donkey born around 2009. He was bred by an Amish farmer who sent him to a slaughter auction in Ohio last December. Felix was saved by our good friend Gerda Silver in Vermont and he arrived at EA last month. Welcome to the family, Felix!

On this day, in 2004, newborn foals Suzie & Lily were the first equines to arrive at our sanctuary, along with their mothers, rescued Canadian PMU (Pregnant Mares’ Urine) mares Bernadette & Jill. Sadly, the moms passed away in 2018, but their daughters still live together with another rescued horse.

Mini Horse meets Wild Mustang 🐴 Mannie and Onaqui came from very different backgrounds, but needed the same thing - A safe, forever home. At Equine Advocates, we give them, and all of our equine residents, a place to get lots of love and gently move forward from their past abuse and mistreatment.

Keeping the sanctuary safe and healthy one equine at a time! Our residents received their spring vaccines, which protect them from various diseases, including Rabies and West Nile Virus. This preventive care is essential to their overall well-being. We’re happy to say our equines were good patients!

We can't get enough of these adorable donkeys! Emma & Jake have been pasture mates since 2023. For years, Jake couldn't get along with other animals due to his decade of neglect before his rescue. Then, Emma arrived at EA & changed everything! We love seeing their friendship entertain visitors.

Look, we spotted a unicorn 🦄 Well, maybe not exactly, but it is National Unicorn Day and Gracie's 27th birthday! Gracie, a Registered Thoroughbred, raced under the name of “Grey Cyane” before sustaining an injury that ended her racing career at age two. Now, she frolics at her own pace!

Looks like the pool is open for the season! With melting snow and recent rain, we're seeing some large puddles form in our pastures. Swiftie, Janie, Vicky, and Sylvia don't mind at all! They love splashing around 🌊

Philip Seymour, a Thoroughbred we rescued last fall, is making good progress! In the last few months, Philip’s wound has healed significantly on the surface. Here he is being such a good patient during his latest X-ray visit!
