'Atmospheric' Theatres were designed to make you think you were in exterior courtyards with a false sky as the ceiling of the auditoriums. They originally came equipped with really extravagant lighting machines that could simulate sunsets, clouds, etc.
A 3K square foot 3 bed 3 bath hit the Market in South Shore. This building was actually designed by John Eberson, pioneering movie palace architect who specialized in 'atmospheric' theatres. Plenty of extravagant 1920's detailing still left. Sadly the bathrooms are updated. $250K
I mostly remember Englewood from what it was like in the 2000’s. My dad would always take Halsted instead of 94 when there was traffic. I always used to look out for the big old Masonic temple before it finally came down.
Slight problem with going to a performance in Granz hall at the Auditorium Building. I’m legitimately quite distracted by Louis Sullivan’s interior
I love browsing HDFC coops in NYC. Maximum income for one person $142K. Asking $345K but and this is key, cash only. Needs near gut rehab. 3 bedrooms + a living room and a dining room. I love it, insane streeteasy.com/building/92-...
New Mediterranean spot opened up where Wow! Pizzeria used to be at The Breakers on Sheridan. When did that happen?
Not to brag but I clicked on this, saw it was built in 1939 and had the thought “who the hell was designing like this in the late 1930’s other than Bruce Goff” just to scroll down and find out it is indeed a Bruce Goff. Edison Park, $775K www.zillow.com/homedetails/...
The fact that it was switching colors right before the rain came in seems to imply it’s functional
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen the old weather bell at Clark and Monroe turned on in my life
I don't even know where to start on how dirty this old Ad for The Narragansentt does it. One of the most ornate Art Deco apartment buildings in the city reduced to a box. Does the Metra still get you into the loop in 9 minutes from That part of Hyde Park/Kenwood? I thought it took longer?
Contingent in 3 days. One bed in Edgewater Beach. $209K. Last sold for $118K in ‘08 www.zillow.com/homedetails/...
Apparently Mike Quigley is hosting his mayoral kickoff INSIDE the uptown theatre this Saturday and if I were in town I’d RSVP just to be in there lmao
Apparently in the 1920's Vibrators were so powerful that they would cause interference with neighboring radios....
An ad for The Park Edgewater from when it was brand new in 1929. Apartments were renting for the equivalent of nearly $2K/month. They're condos now and I don't think they'd rent for that even today. Surrounded by high rises today it was built on a street of lakefront mansions.
Received a positive mid year performance review instead of 6 months severance
2 bed 1 bath in Edgewater. In unit washer/dryer. Seperate living room, dining room. A block from the Berwyn Red line, walking distance to the beach, Andersonville, Uptown. Asking only $250K, bet it sparks a bidding war. www.zillow.com/homedetails/...
Fundraising money to get the Edgewater Beach Apartments a Flag that isn’t comically small relative to the mass of the building and the height of their flagpole
Using your iPhone to take vertical real estate photos is heinous, but I really want to see this Hyde Park condo just go take a gander at the current owners art collection. www.realtor.com/realestatean...
A top floor unit at one of my favorite 6-flats in the city just opened up. Right on Drexel Blvd, a block north of Drexel Square. Built in 1916. 2.6K square foot units. 4 beds, two living rooms, a dining room and crazy original woodwork. Asking $545K www.realtor.com/realestatean...
