THE HEAVENLY TABLE by Donald Ray Pollock (2016) Just finished reading this novel that I will probably look back upon as one of my favorite books ever. Not as horrific and philosophic as Cormac McCarthy’s BLOOD MERIDIAN, but definitely a same-shelf type of book www.amazon.com/dp/110197165...
Okay, this shirt ad targeted me—this is, like, literally half of my camping experience. The other half is wandering through the forest looking for insects.
Returned home from backpacking in Yosemite National Park this week and had an amazing time! Mostly followed the “Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne,” and from there to Tuolumne Meadows. Breathtaking scenic views and excellent weather. Mosquitoes all the way, but such is nature (quite literally)!
Goodbye, cruel world! I’m leaving you all behind to go backpacking across Yosemite for the next week! A travel day tomorrow, and then I’ll be offline until July 3.
Every year, every re-read, this book still holds up as a hallmark of storytelling. A sweet tradition. BIG FISH by Daniel Wallace
Great review in this month’s issue of AUREALIS Magazine of my latest short story collection A GRAVESIDE GALLERY! “…dark, macabre tales from renowned horror author Eric J. Guignard… a smorgasbord for horror enthusiasts. Best under torchlight in the dark.” ericjguignard.com/a_graveside_...
So happy, that after years (decades!) of reading the work of Horror author Poppy Z. Brite (EXQUISITE CORPSE; WORDWOOD; LOST SOULS, etc.), I finally got to meet him (Billy Martin) at StokerCon 2026! Looking forward to many more years of dark reading in store. #StokerCon #StokerCon2026 #StokerCon26
Just wanted to showcase my shirt, where I'm breaking the walls of the fourth dimension through pics of me placed on social media, then re-shot in real life, and then shared back on social media. with @lynnehansenart.bsky.social
I’ve been terrible about posting or reviewing books I’ve read lately. So, in lieu of anything extensive, here’s a quick pic of some novels I finished over the last month or so. They were all good reads in different ways, & I'd rate them each 4 or 5 stars.

Posted this elsewhere, so just reiterating my joy and pride here: I finished writing my third novel!! Horror Fiction / Weird Western, titled: FOUR NIGHTS TO DAWN Elevator-Pitch parlance = Stephen King’s SALEM’S LOT but set in San Diego in the 1800s.
ENTOMOLOGY PHOTO OF THE DAY: One of my favorite insects to espy came calling this week! I’ve never been able to get so close to the largest wasp in Southern California, being the Tarantula hawk wasp (Tribe Pepsini). Photographed May 18, 2026 (abt. 6:30 a.m.) in Chino Hills, CA. Elev. 823 ft.
Incredibly proud of Chino Hills BSA Troop 220 Eagle Scout and Ayala High School student, AARAV DESAI, for founding and leading this environmental advocacy Non-Profit. What a great example of today’s youth-in-leadership, and an indicator of positive change for our future! See more at: conservly.org
Well, look how times change! Once I was a graduate with my son on my arm and now he is a graduate with me on his arm! Congratulations on High School Graduation to my beloved son JULIAN!! Graduated with HONORS; 2 x 4-year Scholar-Athlete; League Champ runner (3200 M), etc.
Fun day with my daughter today at the Kids Entrepreneur Fair, where she sold her resin creations, among at least 60 other entrepreneur-youth vendors/businesses/non-profits. Former L.A. Dodgers GOAT, Orel Hershiser, came by, shopping at her booth!
The first book I’ve ever gotten signed by a Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Congratulations to Daniel Kraus for this distinguished feat with ANGEL DOWN!
Went backpacking over the weekend with a small group of Scouts and got home last night. Beautiful weather, but a rigorous trek! Went up to Mission Springs Trail Camp, which is part of the Pacific Crest Trail (in the San Gorgonia Wilderness of San Bernardino National Forest). Abt. 16 miles in and out
Just got back today as ASM from 2026 Camporee with my daughter’s Boy Scouts Scouting America Girl's 220-G Troop! We had a great time, and our Troop WON the competition! A cumulative points-based series of activities including knot-tying, cooking, fire-starting, first aid, etc. Go Scouts!
I love Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, and look forward to it each year. I was only able to attend on Sunday, and felt (even more so) that I just did not have enough time to see everything I wanted. Perfect weather out, and huge attendance. Already looking forward to 2027!
Great panel going on right now at L.A. Times Festival of Books: "Earth Versus the Universe: Epic Battles and World-Building in SciFi" with John Scalzi and @danielkraus.com , and moderated by @Leslie S. Klinger!!!
This Sun., April 19, I’ll be selling and signing books at the LA Times Festival of Books at USC Campus! Horror Writers Association (HWA) booth #912 from 10 a.m. to 12. After that, I’ll be seeing friends on panels, and then working as a Festival Volunteer. www.latimes.com/events/festi...
Just got RED EMPIRE, the latest Joe Ledger-release by @jonathanmaberry.bsky.social! Including the line of novels, the comics, the short stories, and other tie-in media, this is—in order—about the 2,000th volume in the series!
Can’t wait to start reading this biography of Jim Butcher by Joyce Carol Oates! Who knew she was such a fan?
I'll be at #WonderCon this weekend in Anaheim! Speaking on a brilliant panel Saturday evening at 7:00, and visiting the publishers and artists' alley and friends the rest of the time.
Always great to meet up for the monthly HWA Los Angeles chapter of Horror Writers Association with friends and peers at The Mayflower Club in North Hollywood. Even better to go for dinner afterward at this very cool venue, Broken Compass Tiki Bar!
