The GM for my Lancer game made new art for my mech’s new license level and it is BADASS. Our whole team is ridiculously spoiled to be playing with a pro artist who draws for us. Please, no one tell her how much money we should owe her for this quality of #gamedev art… 🙏🏻😂

The machine’s name is listed as “Mother’s Little Helper”.

Happy Solstice and Happy Father’s Day for those who celebrate! Today I was in the shop on a slow, warm summer day. Sold a couple of things and completed my latest shop project!🧶

A completed cross stitch project in a wooden hoop, depicting three red-capped mushrooms, the largest of which has a tiny pink and purple snail sitting on the cap. The threads are very luminous, as it has been stitched with hand-dyed silk.

Why I Can’t Make Videos, Part One: because I am SUCH a gomer.🤣 For the non-knitters: these two skeins of yarn were previously knitted into to sample scarves. I unwound the knitting, but the yarn remembers! It will stay all curly and boingy until I give it a bath or re-dye it to help it relax.🧶

Home today from a trip to Alberta to attend my very first Prairie Fibre Fest! Monday is usually my day off, but I came in and opened the shop to re-stock and re-arrange the space so that all the Home Yarn and Away Yarn are reunited.🧶❤️ We are only here for two more weeks. I’ll miss my sea can!

Today I am bringing my yarn game to Olds, Alberta for the Prairie Fibre Fest. Simultaneously, there is a crew running the Pop-Up Shop in downtown Vancouver during a World Cup game. So this should be interesting…! www.prairiefibrefestival.ca/the-festivals

Three skeins of hand-dyed yarn that are simultaneously black and a blend of rainbow colors, like shimmering oil or a dragon’s scales. The colorway is called Draconic Black.

Four skeins of yarn which combine a splash of pale blue and violet radiance against a field of deep intense dark blue and blue-violet. The colorway is called “Cosmic”.

Six skeins of hand-dyed yarn in a mix of bright oceanic blue greens. The colorway is called Caribbean Dream.

Five skeins of hand-dyed yarn in a mix of cold northern ocean blues with a distinct section of bright radiant lime green. The colorway is inspired by the waves off Tofino—it’s called The Tofino Curl.

Self-promotion Saturday: I made a new colorway this week! Inspired by the snowfields that glow in the vast darkness of polar winter, and reflect the Aurora Borealis in glittering fragments like Swarovski crystals. I call it “Polar Starlight”. 🧶

Experimenting with more interesting skeins of embroidery floss, but it is surprisingly hard to get any things really interesting to happen. These turned out pretty, though. I’m going to call this weird little limited edition one-off “Monet”.

Beyond that, though, silk is just such a gorgeous, luminous fibre and it takes dye so beautifully that you just want to work with it forever. I love making the flosses and it has been fun to try to develop craft kits to go with them—though I will admit my design work in that respect is a bit slow.🧶

While you might not need or want the black light effect on every embroidery project, it does add something extra to subjects that have a gothic or spooky factor, like this Glowing Toadstools pattern from The Gilded Moth Patterns.🧶 (I like mushrooms, what can I say.)

And the thing is…silk can take the same acid dyes that work on wool and other protein fibres. Which means that it’s fairly easily to make it do things that cotton does not do nearly as well—like glow under black light.🧶

I may or may not have mentioned here that I recently began hand-dyeing a line of 100% silk embroidery floss. Words and even pictures cannot fully convey how pretty it is, and how amazing silk is to work with as a dyer. But I will try.🧶

New product in my pop-up shop today: hand-dyed 100% silk scrunchies for your hair! Silk is the best because it is gentle and helps to prevent breakage when you are trying to grow out healthy long hair. I don’t list these on my website, but I’m charging $6 Canadian atm. You deserve nice things! 🧶

Just a funny coincidence, but it makes me smile. I always admired Mucha, but this was the first time I felt a deep sense of kinship with him. It’s rare to share a dream or a vision with someone who was so great. (And you’ll NEVER convince me now that the Moon Lady isn’t real.)

The latest Moon Lady design for printing t-shirts this summer, featuring the Moon Lady as an Indigenous woman ascending over a stylized skyline of the city of Vancouver. The word “Vancouver” is in the foreground and a wavering reflection of the word makes it clear that we are viewing the scene from the water at night.

The image is very personal to me, so you can imagine my surprise when I opened this book of rare art from one of the most famous artists of the 19th-20th centuries and found that Mucha painted the Moon Lady! Literally, She is identified as the spirit of Nature. He knew! He’d seen the Night Ocean!

Only one small coda to this. I am also an artist, in a humble fashion. I have been painting one image on my t-shirts consistently since I started making them—a character I call the Moon Lady. She’s a spirit of Nature—a celestial lunar diety who embodies the Smile Behind the Universe. 8/

My Mom and I sat together for over an hour just slowly turning the pages of this book. It wasn’t just a plain reproduction of the original text and plates—there are several chapters of historical and biographical context, all richly illustrated with incredible huge images, including photos. /5

This book is a reproduction of a deeply personal work that Mucha created to express his personal philosophical and spiritual beliefs. It’s called “Le Pater”—an illuminated edition of the Lord’s Prayer. Every sentence is broken down into ideas that Mucha translated into gorgeous full colour plates.

A complex and beautiful Mucha illustration in his common commercial/poster art style, featuring beautiful geometric forms and intertwining loops. In a standard Art Nouveau font it gives words from the Lord’s Prayer in both Latin abs French: “give us this day our daily bread”.

Another day at work! I’m running my shop at the Junction Public Market and working on my hat decoration contest with the team’s resident crochet artist, Ashlee. This is my third day of #needlefelting and this hat is getting whacky.🧶
