EV levy aside, I also write a lot about how the transition to electric buses is too soon for Malaysia when we should look to expand our fleet at cost instead:
Soyacincau has a great editorial writeup about how this is the wrong solution, which also paints a hellish road for transit agencies that are looking to install charging capacity to accommodate an electric bus fleet soyacincau.com/2026/08/04/p...
While many oppose the proposed levy on EVs to fund charging infrastructure from a private car standpoint, this will also undermine electric bus procurements for transit agencies as it will make it more cost-prohibitive to adopt zero-emission buses on top of the electric premium
So much words and unnecessary uses of jargons to say little things when all RapidKL could’ve said is that they have troubles issuing concession tokens at the counter and everything else is normal Poor disruption communication confuses people instead of helping them!
Good to see that the Selangor state government has finally taken interest in BRT expansion almost a decade after they talked to IDTP and TransJakarta of Indonesia While it may not be realistic to expand to Glenmarie or Kwasa Damansara, going to Puchong is a no-brainer move
For reference, this was what Market Square previously looked between 2024-2026 June:
The last remnant of the 2023 refurbishment project is on its way out, likely to be destroyed to make way for the new makeover that uses AI-generated imagery, as seen with the clock tower and Agrobank tower shown in the background in the depicted angle when it isn’t in reality!
Kind of ghoulish to turn what was a pretty neat public park with well-shaded trees to flatten it for big green lawn with less trees than before in the name of a “Corporate Social Responsibility” project by the Creador Foundation
Not to sound too conspiratorial but a transit agency leaving money on the table by extending the LRT3 free period may not be out of benevolence (RapidKL has the mandate to collect revenue today) but instead to buy time to fix alleged issues with its QR-based ticketing system
Putting these posters up are funded out of my own pocket, and join like-minded people who care about public transport in the city and support me here to see more works like these via DuitQR or Kofi at ko-fi.com/urbanalliancemy
No good deed goes unpunished unfortunately, as the posters did not survive longer than a week at the Pasar Seni bus interchange, and what remained were the official posters that are placed way to high up to be easily readable:
And the updated graphics are also up at Pasar Seni's bus interchange to help navigating to the newly-migrated bus services, while also accurately locating the existing bus services that are relocated for the new bus services! Spot them at your travels here:
If there are people willing to give away or sell me their physical KLIA Travelcards cards, please DM me as I am looking forward to collect them for preservation purposes
Today is the last day to obtain a physical Travelcard from KLIA Transit before they phase it out in favour for a digital version that has no physical alternative You can still buy a Travelcard between two stops, so I bought the cheapest weekly sector between KLIA T1 and T2
The move for ERL to digital monthly passes is more consequential when you consider that they will start locking down accounts to a single device, effectively making the passes even harder to be shared by friends and family
KR Travel and Tour's days of running 523 between Lebuh Pudu and Putrajaya Sentral via IOI City Mall are numbered, as the Land Public Transport Agency has put out a tender seeking for new operators to operate the ISBSF route, with a deadline by 10 of August
I will be meeting and mingling with folks from the Shah Alam City Council and others to talk about bus stop shelters and more soon If you have any burning questions about bus infrastructure, service quality, and more within shah alam and beyond , I’d like to hear it from you!
With the boarding positions of existing bus services at Pasar Seni changing on the same day as when bus services from Lebuh Pudu were relocated, it raises the questions as to whether if RapidKL had anticipated the consequences for crowding more buses at the Interchange station
A fun exercise for a Sunday: as 151 would be extended to Pasar Seni tomorrow, it has two routes it could take… Place your predictions! Would it be: Green: via Jalan Sultan, traversed by KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus Blue: via Jalan Tun HS Lee, where Bus Service 580/590 travels down
It's the end of an era for RapidKL at Lebuh Pudu Bus Terminal next week, with 590 first ushering the way to be relocated to terminate at Pasar Seni Interchange station exactly a year ago, despite the unresolved pressures of inadequate bus parking and berth spaces at the interchange
It seems like a different social media staffer picked up the post and tweaked it without fixing the biggest flaw of the poster themselves: its way too much words to convey a station operating hour extension when graphical aids would do a much better job
Are we really made to believe that a rail disruption is caused by “unauthorised” works without the knowledge of the railway done by a contractor appointed by the Public Works Department Such incompetence shouldn’t have happened since the 2023 Bandaraya LRT construction incident
See the bug in action here, where it only appears in the detail linear diagram and seen nowhere else:
A peculiar bug on the LCD passenger display for set 20 of the Kelana Jaya Line: every station after the current station is depicted as a connecting station to KTMB services, even going as far to overlaying the connection above stations with actual connections, like USJ 7's BRT
A key bus route that goes to Batu Caves having a bus service amendment that will last a month due to road works, and its only announced a day before the amendment Road works aren’t magically planned overnight, so why can’t RapidKL communicate this to bus users earlier?
Throwback to when the new bus stop at YMCA had open holes in the design and was only fixed after complaints Even with billions spent for the River of Life project, it seemed that it wasn’t enough to catch this simple yet consequential design mistake that screwed over countless commuters in the rain
The audacity and the tone-deafness of KTMB to green light this PSA without considering how insensitive it is to ask deaf people to listen for station audio announcements they cannot hear
Super stoked to organise a wayfinding workshop and conference with Transport for Jakarta right in Kuala Lumpur and getting people who would’ve never met before to be in same room is super amazing! Featuring: a cool table featuring wayfinding and design stuff across Southeast Asia too!
There was of course, some shenanigans by touring around the poster child of post-2000 car-centric Malaysian township that is Bukit Raja:
To the 18 or so folks from across the Klang Valley and beyond who braved the crowds of the first Saturday of LRT3 opening, thank you so much for coming for the tour! We got to try a lot of what LRT3 has to offer, and some of them arguably from questionable planning decisions…
