I saw someone mention this book the other day, which inspired me to revisit it, and I think the book is a bit hit and miss, but her discussion of evolutionary psychology and pinker are very good critiques; though calling Edmund Leach a cultural anthropologist is pretty egregious

I think I know what I'll be doing today. I remember getting The Waterboys' Fisherman's Blues in 1988 (first as a cassette tape and then in 1989 as a CD), it's a good album, and I'm looking forward to listening to the lost recordings.

It's Franz Boas's birthday, if you're interested in what Boas actually wrote, these four books are a pretty good introduction to some of the range of his work. The introduction to the handbook is, in my view, required reading for linguistic anthropologists.
