But you don't have to take my word for it: "It's incredible what wealth of information fits into 52 pages. The nods to other resources, may it be essays or assets, are very much appreciated - this is a great starting point to making your own game, one-page or not..."
It's random tables this week at Skeleton Code Machine! Specifically, when you combine multiple little tables to make one big thing. Sort of like the Make Your Own Dragon generator in the latest issue of Tumulus.
In case you missed it... test prints for We are Mushrooms arrived! Need to make one or two minor (trivial?) changes and then send it for a full print run.

Skeleton Code Machine is an ENNIE-nominated and CRIT award-winning weekly newsletter exploring tabletop game mechanisms — named one of the Best Board Game Resources of 2025 by Cardboard Edison. And it's free! You should read it: www.skeletoncodemachine.com
Precious Things doesn't just look cute. It's an example of interesting game design featured in the current issue of Tumulus. Fits perfectly with Issue 7's dragon theme.
This issue contains helpful methods for defeating dragons such as: (1) feeding it exploding cakes made of pitch and hair, (2) having a bishop spit in its mouth. It also includes a dragon generator so you can make your own.
Although it does presume some “board game fluency”, I also appreciate explicitly calling out the currency of the game.
I appreciate when a rulebook has a clearly defined objective right up front. It’s hard to get both a mechanical and thematic description in a short space. Blood Rage is a solid example of the kind I like.

Reminder: Tumulus does not auto-renew because I hate auto-renewing subscriptions. Bad for business? Perhaps. Good for my conscience? Yes. But it does mean you need to remember to re-up for another 4 issues. Watch for the big, blue "LAST ISSUE" reminder. 💙
This week at SCM: Four-way tug of war and influence vs. control. Two of my favorite mechanisms all mixed up in a single game. Some good design inspiration here. Watch for it Tuesday morning!
