Short reviews of games I finish - #MFGameThoughts Profile pic by @murmurlilies.bsky.social
Anyways, this was a good game. I'm glad I picked it up and I hope to see more from this dev team. It's an easy recommend.
There's this line that really resonated with me in the latter half of the game. "Do you think it's fair to judge someone for how they act in an impossible situation?" Fiction is often stranger than reality and consuming media on a daily basis involves judging characters for this very thing but...
I didn't expect to see different graphic styles options. It was a cute extra that they didn't need to do. I think this game is worth a play (or read in this case). I'm looking forward to seeing what they put out next. Wouldn't mind a sequel to explore the world more or continuation of the story.
Finally took some time to play Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog. It feels very PC-98 especially in the presentation. It's a fairly short and solid VN overall. I didn't expect the plot to ramp up as quickly as it did. The ending to the game left me a bit mad as I wanted more from it. #MFGameThoughts
Most of the Beatmania logos (and especially the album covers) make me think they're anything but a new Beatmania game. The logo for 14 made me think it was a new JRPG.
My favorite part of the movie is where they do the overhead shot of Aki then zoom in on her looking up and end at her eye but they didn't do the zoom right so they just added 2 frames with a close up of her eye.
Managed to make some time for more gaming. Just finished Shinobi: Art of Vengence. Sega's dip into retro revivals feels like it's at a good start. The game feels like an extremely natural sequel to the original 2D games. Off of feel alone, I was able to find secrets & sequence break. #MFGameThoughts
Been a real long time since I played another game to completion but this time I got done with Drova: Forsaken Kin. I was initially under the impression this would be a quick weekend game, but instead I ended up in a 40 hour venture (with a few stubborn brute force attempts). #MFGameThoughts
Well, between you and a couple others I think most of my lurk time is just cemented in retro.
#MFGameThoughts - Daemon x Machine: Titanic Scion So I picked up and finished DxM2. This game was a lot shorter than I expected. Once you get out of the tutorial area it feels like a bit like it'll be Xenoblade in scope and length. That said the shorter length makes it easier to keep going.
I definitely rented more than a handful of TMNT. I never owned any of them. Thinking back to it, that Taz game was fucking rough.
I can just barely remember what rentals I used to get. I remember renting a game from Blockbuster but they gave me Resident Evil 1 instead by mistake. Took it back the same day to get something else.
Second run of Metal Slug Tactics done. I was worried about Ralf not having a default weapon with range but his damage output balanced that out really well.
Finished first run of Metal Slug Tactics. Definitely took a few rounds to get the idea of how they want you to play.
It's taken about 3 months but finally finished another game. This time I decided to dive into Rogue Trader. Considering how long I played to finish 1 run, I'm not surprised at the exceedingly low completion rate. The worst thing about this game is the fact Baldur's Gate 3 exists. #MFGameThoughts
If you want an automated way to fix that and some other bits I highly recommend WinUtil (github.com/ChrisTitusTe...). All you have to do is run the script and then it gives you all the options to customize Windows.
Only had one set of bad matches with someone so far and they were teleporting so I lost my win streak but seems good so far.
Finally decided to pick up and finish Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. This was a fun 10 hour romp that let me relive the Jet Set mindset. Only real complaints with the game is the combo system relying on grinding on corners and the final boss being a little glitchy. #MFGameThoughts
Just finished playing Ys Nordics. Took me about 50 hours from start to finish. I didn't do everything but got through most of the content. One of the more surprising things is how far leveling goes just by playing the game normally. I hit level 92 by the end. #MFGameThoughts
Honestly, y'all travel enough to warrant getting one. One hand on the handle, and the other hand for your other suitcase. This could be you, just saying.
This is actually the first modern game I've played where I actually wish I had a photo mode. I wouldn't want it in the cockamamie way most games do where you get a phone-like apparatus like Breath of the Wild. But just let me go into photo mode so I can take a pics without the HUD or characters.
Today I finished the the main story of Visions of Mana. It does have post game content but I'd like to get my thoughts in order and posted before I lose this feeling. It definitely is not a perfect game and has some failings but it is a great game and worth checking out. #MFGameThoughts
Finally went back to finish Metroid Dread over the past couple weeks. Got lost a few times and ran into more walls than I thought I would. EMMI is a big point of contention for me. They did not feel balanced overall. Some were too easy, other sections were too difficult. 1/2
