New York Times bestselling author, comics writer, and historian. Author of STAR WARS, STAR TREK, and BATMAN novels. May the Bat-Force Live Long and Prosper!
I've seen LOGAN'S RUN and HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER a combined zillion times, but only today on what would've been his 89th birthday did I realize the Richard Jordan who played Francis-7 is the same Richard Jordan who's the national security advisor. I'm that lousy a viewer and he's that good an actor!
Just announced: I'll be finishing off my 2026 travel season this December 4-6 at GalaxyCon Columbus. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! #galaxyconcolumbus
Starting on Thursday, I'll be at GalaxyCon Raleigh! Find me at my table all four days (booth number coming soon) — and I'll be doing my "Rule the Galaxy Together: Writing in a Shared Universe" talk Friday at 1:45 in Panel Room 2. See you there! #starwars #startrek #batman #GalaxyConRaleigh
70 years ago, Elvis Presley played a benefit at Russwood Park in Memphis — and my late mother, just out of high school, was an usher collecting for the Cynthia Milk Fund. She never forgot it but had no photos, so it was fun to find a page about the show. www.elvispresleymusic.com.au/pictures/195...
Invasion of the Canadian Cloud Creature! The smoke from the Canadian wildfires has arrived in Wisconsin. Hazy at noon and getting worse. I can forget about backyard astronomy for a while!
Why legislate a fix for Daylight Savings? All we need is to find someone to stop the Earth from tilting. Voila!
I'm at GalaxyCon Raleigh in a couple of weeks, so I won't be at San Diego — but a fun memory from there was 2013, when in advance of the KENOBI novel release I was inducted into The Rebel Legion in front of the big Del Rey display. Obi-Wan photobombed nearly every picture I have from that year!
Pretty clear night at last here in Wisconsin — here’s the M8, the Lagoon Nebula. Feels like it should come with Patrick MacNee doing a voiceover about the Battlestar Galactica. #astronomy
With the weekend underway (for many), I finally discuss the naming of BATMAN: REVOLUTION, which takes place during the Fourth of July and uncovers the hidden Revolutionary War past of Gotham City. Discover it for yourself this weekend — it’s on sale now! #batman #july4th #batmanrevolution #writing
My #StarWars THE LIVING FORCE novel set before Phantom Menace was a case where I realized early on what title I liked, and I was delighted that we got it. There had already been a novel called THE UNIFYING FORCE from James Luceno, but the title owed more to a different book, as I discuss.
This was a very fun one for me: the story behind the title of my story for the #PlanetOfTheApes TALES FOR THE FORBIDDEN ZONE anthology. It remains one of my favorite stories I’ve written, drawing on my obsession with television history. Worth finding a copy! #writing
Here’s some of the thinking that went into the title for BATMAN: RESURRECTION, my first novel set between the Tim Burton movies. I’m sure you have your own ideas that fit the “Batman Returns” pattern; on a hot day like today, “Batman Refrigerates” sounds good! #batman #batmanresurrection #writing
The title for my first streaming-era novel, #StarTrek DISCOVERY: THE ENTERPRISE WAR, was a case where I landed on the right title, but for the wrong reason — a reason that would impact the cover choice. I explain my mistake here! #writing #startrekdiscovery #StrangeNewWorlds
I get asked now and again about how I come up with my book titles. I’m rarely asked specifically about the title process for #StarWars KENOBI from Random House Worlds, although as you’ll hear, it was more complicated than you might think! #writing #kenobi #obiwankenobi
Honored that BATMAN: REVOLUTION was named by the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers as a finalist for the Scribe Award in the category of Best Original Tie-In Novel - Speculative Fiction. I’m humbled to be included with so many fantastic authors and works! Nominee list follows: /1
Scheduling conflicts have kept me out of the Joliet Library Star Wars Day for the last couple of years, but I always liked visiting the historical museum there — and seeing what the fans did to it. This was ten years ago: I think the Tusken wanted to know which way Jake and Elwood went.
Last hour at @originsgamefair.bsky.social and it’s been insanely busy — so it’s nice to have a way to relieve stress at the table. Our thanks to Level Up Sabres for dropping by! #starwars #originsgamefair
Only Saturday at Origins Game Fair and my hair is doing the full Captain Pike. See the resemblance — and authors like Keith DeCandido here — today in the Authors Alcove, and catch my Legacy of Tim Burton’s Batman talk at 2:30 in the Short North Ballroom! #batman #originsgamefair
The greeters are here, and so are the gamers. Friday is underway at Origins Game Fair! Find me all day at the Authors Alcove — except for my “Rule the Galaxy Together: Writing in a Shared Universe” presentation, which is at 2 p.m. in the Short North Ballroom. No cost to attend! #originsgamefair
And we are underway here at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio! Come see me, Aaron Rosenberg, Christopher Schmitz, Keith DeCandido and many others in the Authors Alcove, row 2700 in the Exhibitor Hall. And don’t miss my Writing for Comics seminar at 2 in the Short North Ballroom!
“May I suggest the Nike Airs for your drive to Origins Game Fair, sir?” —my gentleman’s gentleman (literally named Alfred)
Unfortunately, Bluesky is stingy with video length — so here's the next installment, in which I guess at the order of production of the three BATMAN 1989 adaptations. It’s more complicated than you might think! www.facebook.com/reel/2862521...
Here’s a quick look at some of the differences between the actual texts of the U.K. hardcover adaptation of BATMAN by Craig Shaw Gardner — and what saw print in paperback in the United States. (Next up, I bring the comics adaptation into it!) #batman #bookcollecting
The differences between the two BATMAN (1989) prose adaptations go behind the physical — here’s a look at some of the other neat things the British publisher included. (Still to come: the story differences!) #batman #bookcollecting
Received something I’d never seen — an official hardcover version of Craig Shaw Gardner’s BATMAN novelization from 1989. My thanks to Kyle Siebrand for the book, which is different from the paperback version in ways that go well beyond the format. (I’ll get into how, soon!) #batman #bookcollecting
Here's my final schedule for Origins Game Fair, where I'll be author guest of honor. I'll be doing three of my signature slideshow talks — event numbers are listed for those using Tabletop — and I'll be available all weekend in the Authors Alcove. See you at #OriginsGameFair!
And we are underway at Phoenix Fan Fusion @phoenixfanfusion.bsky.social for Sunday! Find me — as this caped crusader did — at booth 1761! #batman #starwarw #startrek
“You wouldn’t hit a guy with glasses, would you?” That is indeed the inscription in this copy of BATMAN: RESURRECTION that I signed on a very busy Friday at Phoenix Fan Fusion. Find me again on Saturday at booth 1761 — and catch my Writing for Comics slideshow at 1:30 in room 227A! #batman
