We're a not-for-profit organisation working with communities towards an Australia free from alcohol harms.
South Australia is about to be a nation leader. Premier Peter Malinauskas has confirmed his government will take updates to alcohol delivery to Parliament today. This is life-saving reform and a positive step forward to reduce harm to women and children.
"This says quite clearly that the government is not committed to ensuring that people in the home are safe." South Australian survivor-advocate Stacey Nelan spoke to ABC Radio Adelaide earlier this week after hearing the Malinauskas Government will rewrite its long-overdue reforms to alcohol laws.
Australia's national crisis of gender-based violence requires urgency from all of our leaders. But what we've seen in South Australia is a government stalling on common-sense reforms to alcohol delivery laws for 18 months and counting. Read more: https://bit.ly/4wbgZSI
The South Australian Government has back-pedalled on a promise to "immediately" act on curbing alcohol-related domestic, family and sexual violence. For more than 18 months, it's stalled on common-sense, evidence-based and community-backed reforms to address unregulated alcohol delivery.
Pull up a stool, folks! As Bowel Cancer Awareness Month comes to an end, we wanted to point out that alcohol is linked to an increased risk of developing Australia's second deadliest cancer. It's 1 of 7 cancers with known links to alcohol. Cutting back can help reduce your risk.
"Sport should unite us, and only divide us along the lines of who we support." Tarang Chawla says that the Federal Government should recognise how alcohol and gambling accelerate violence against women and children, and phase out these ads around the AFL, NRL and other major sports events.
Matt is giving back to his community in ways he never once imagined, one stride at a time, after swapping alcohol for running. It's a decision he credits with transforming his sleep, mental clarity and purpose. Learn more at benicetobrain.org.au #BeNiceToBrain #MensHealthWeek
This week, Australia is again having a national conversation about the crisis of violence towards women and children. In @womensagenda.bsky.social., Katherine Berney calls on our leaders to go beyond speaking solemnly about the heartbreak of violence, by acting on systems that fuel this harm.
In a new article for Women's Agenda, FARE Prevention of Gendered Violence Director Katherine Berney shares how the recent @cnn.com investigation into harmful online communities highlights the need for systemic change to address gender-based violence before it starts. https://bit.ly/48taj8T
Just like you, we think sports should support our kids to grow up healthy and active. So why is there a loophole in our free-to-air TV rules that allows alcohol companies to run their ads during ANY sports program? https://fare.org.au/have-your-say-to-reduce-alcohol-ads-on-tv/
Mitch Brown knows how sport plays a vital role in shaping young men's behaviours because, like his peers, he was a role model for boys who watched him play footy. That's why Mitch wants alcohol ads, what he calls the AFL's "cultural wallpaper", booted from the game. https://giveusanadbreak.org.au/
These reforms listen to the evidence. They reflect the lived and living experiences of victim survivors. And they are common-sense changes that South Australians wants to see.
Our message to the re-elected Malinauskas Government is undeniably clear. Your proposed life-saving alcohol reforms have been on the table for more than a year. You made a promise to fast-track these reforms if you were returned.
Every child should be free to grow up without being flooded with imagery and messages about products we know cause harm. Whether they are waiting for the bus, watching sport or browsing online, children are constantly exposed to gambling, alcohol and unhealthy food ads. #GiveUsAnAdBreak #auspol
With 4 in 5 Australians concerned about these ads, and wanting to see less of them, creating healthier environments isn’t just a common-sense step. It’s also overwhelmingly popular. #giveusanadbreak #auspol
We’re calling for the Federal Government to introduce better safeguards against the advertising of gambling, alcohol and unhealthy foods. Australia became a world leader when we phased out tobacco ads – it’s time to lead the way again. #giveusanadbreak #auspol
Gambling, alcohol and unhealthy food ads follow us everywhere we go: across social media, sport, TV and streaming, and on the street. That’s what we want to change through ‘Give us an ad break’, which we launched alongside the Alliance for Gambling reform and the Food for Health Alliance last week.
As we prepare to dive in to 2026, we’re looking back at the change we – and our community – fostered. If you would like to be a part of our story next year, visit fare.org.au/get-involved/
Throughout 2025, advocates, researchers, fundraisers and other community members have raised their voices, told their lived experiences, and shared valuable knowledge to support this key goal.
Every day, we’re getting closer to our vision of an Australia free from alcohol harms.
At any time of day, on any day of the year, help is always here – and the festive season is no exception.
Today, we’ve launched a new report alongside VicHealth that explores how companies harvest and draw on millions of pieces of personal data to track, profile and target people with hyper-personalised online ads. fare.org.au/data-driven-... #DataDrivenMarketing #auspol #onlineprivacy
Earlier this month, FARE met with Vic Gov MPs to discuss the impact of rapid home delivery of alcohol. FARE Lived Experience Advisor Kym Valentine and Policy & Research Director Matt Georgeson explained how common-sense, evidence-based measures can help reduce rates of family & domestic violence.
Thinking of cutting back or cutting out alcohol? Next time you're offered an alcoholic drink, try saying "I'm good!" Because your decision doesn't need a big explanation. Next week, we're launching a brand-new digital campaign that explores the positives - big and small - of making a change.
There were 1,765 Australians who died because of alcohol in 2024, each of them someone's child, parent, partner or friend. Read our full media release: fare.org.au/abs-alcohol-...
We're calling on federal, state and territory governments to spring into action after new Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed that alcohol-induced deaths in Australia are increasing. fare.org.au/abs-alcohol-...
When alcohol becomes more available and accessible in the community through the spread of rapid home delivery and targeted online marketing, harms increase. fare.org.au/abs-alcohol-... #auspol #alcoholharms
FARE was proud to attend the launch of the Adolescent Man Box study, by Executive Director of The Men's Project at Jesuit Social Services, Matt Tyler, and international expert in domestic and family violence, Professor Kate Fitz-Gibbon, at the National Press Club of Australia.
Today, a new Australian study of teenagers' attitudes has found the more strongly teenage boys hold rigid views about masculinity, the more likely they are to have consumed alcohol within the last 12 months. jss.org.au/programs/the...
