learning to ID the desert cottontails found on the prairie up by the airport vs the regular suburban eastern cottontails we get. longer black-trimmed ears on the desert buns (i think) here

singing brewer's sparrows at ~12000 ft on the alpine tundra was interesting. the northern subspecies inhabits krummholz habitat like this, but research (ace-eco.org/vol19/iss1/a...) suggests the ones here are still southerners, despite being at dramatically higher elevation and not using sagebrush
