I am enjoying the summer even though it is so hot that I’m getting up at 04:30 (was even earlier in July) to ride.
And here are some photos from this morning’s dog walk with Harris. Huw and Joe, the other two dogs, sensibly stayed in bed. It was cold. The deer we saw decided we were far enough away to be ignored.
Cheering myself up by ignoring all the 🌍 gloom and posting what makes me happy. So here is our Christmas tree and new cat tree. Luckily the cats love their new tree and have ignored the Christmas tree this year.
We have three dogs, Normally the two Jack Russells (Huw & Harris) go to work with husband (a vet). On Sunday, after a walk, because it is a quieter, more relaxed day, each dog gets a chew. So 3 dogs = 3 chews. Harris likes chews!
Final brown photo: the wooden extension we added to the house many years ago now. #SundayPixBrown
Lots of brown in our garden: the seating area with views of brown roofs #SundayPixBrown
Some brown trees in our garden and the brown door to our (now full with this year’s cut ready for the winter) hay barn with naturally formed cat entrance. #SundayPixBrown
Hot here so walked early. We went on a fairly long walk. Busy: we met one other dog walker (from neighbouring village) and one non-dog walker (from our village).
Not a great photo because the sheep were being bit flighty post-shearing but they do look funny. Like the flock has halved. Ali did a great job with them on the hottest day of the years far (poor guy, lucky sheep).
Last night, started clearing out sheep’s winter quarters (helped by slightly too friendly lambs). This morning they went out in the big field for the first time this year. They were joined by ponies who are usually out there in the day, and the chickens who went out last night.
I lied. I got the photo, but Harris then jumped up and the other two soon followed!
Tomorrow isn’t going to be Manic’s (lamb in photo looking up) best day. No morning milk bottle. His sister, Mabel, the other lamb who wasn’t rejected by mum is already being cut off from the milk supply. Manic has one more week of daily milk, then he too will be disappointed.
Sun came out today. First load of washing of the year dried outside. Tortoises out of their hibernation. Lambs enjoying the warmth. PV panels buzzing. (Although clouds are now back, birds still singing and it’s still warm.) 🎉
World might be a bit shit but dogs are fabulous. Huw had a lovely walk this morning and then went to “work” as the vet’s assistant. Harris has had three walks today and is exhausted! His boundless energy has been temporarily sapped.
Lambs are just too cute in their little coats. Ridiculous but so is being born in January! Just too cold rn.
Harris seems okay with part of an old sock on his head! It’s stopping blood from dripping. He’s feeling sorry for himself with 3 stitches in his head. But still has enough energy to jump up as soon as he hears the sound of cooking (& possible food falling).
Sheep update: Mabel (first-born) doing super well and suckling. Manic (second) on the bottle but living with others. Super happy little boy. Sadly, Marvin (youngest) didn’t make it. Mum (Martha) rejected him and he was weak.
Amongst all the 🔥, we’ve ordered floor tiles and wall tiles for new cloakroom area. Hope it looks as nice as I imagine.
Day 2: Mabel (eldest) suckling from Martha. Two boys bottle fed (not good at suckling & mum intolerant) but stay with mum during day. In a win-win, Mabel wears coats at night. Boys come in house at night. They then wear the coats during the day. As they then smell like Mabel, mum tolerates them.
This happened today. Wasn’t a planned pregnancy (not a great time of year). Been a bit stressy. Younger two, particularly youngest, a bit weak. Had some bottled milk to help them and they are in our house for the night. Mum and eldest in barn. They are cute.
