Good question. Both Zuko and Katara are asking themselves questions about what their role is now and who they are going to be going forward this season. The blue spirit and painted lady are both alter egos, versions of themselves that are independent from their forward facing identities that allow them to explore their identities. In finding that they defend the same people, they find their similarities and it complicates their conversation in 207 and platforms what happens in season 3. They actually tie together very well thematically.

Thanks for this! It means a lot coming from you. I definitely respect Zutara AND Kataang shippers both and wanted to make sure people enjoy the ride. I can also say that if i didn't think the blue spirit and painted lady team up this season didn't make sense thematically and with both of their character journeys, i would never have supported putting it in the show. Zuko and Katara have lots of chemistry in the animated series because they have so much conflict and I have to imagine it was intentional on the part of the OG writers to create that chemistry.
