More teens heading to a disco on a rainy evening. Text reads "All across the island, there is a very particular rite-of-passage, a cultural exchange that of course exists in other countries, but has its own distinct identity on these shores. Teenagers all over the world go to discos, but only in Ireland do they go to an Irish disco.

Lucille Carolan goes on an excursion through that experience in Anatomy of an Irish Disco. The documentary short follows a gang of girls as they prepare for, go to and wind down from a farmyard teen disco. Fifteen-year-old Freya, Aoife and Kayla go through all the excitement, apprehension and eventual exhaustion, captured with intimacy and empathy by Carolan."

I was interested in the girlhood, specifically, and the friendship, and the childhood. The childhood is still very much there, despite how much they’re trying to fight it with how they’re dressing, and presenting themselves. Maybe some of them are drinking or trying vaping for the first time, but a lot of them aren’t, that side of it I think gets blown out of proportion."
