So that's a really common pose in group photos from the early 20th Century and the Russian Civil War - you see it here, as well, for example, in a photo of a bunch of anarchist Black Army troops. You can also find it in photos of sports teams, military units, or even families and friends.

The troops on Trotsky's personal armoured train, "Revvoyensovet", all wore red leather uniforms - the Krasnya Sotnia (Red Hundred).

An armoured Sentinel - one of the latest models from Games Workshop - armed with a chainblade and a lascannon. It is painted in a three-tone green, sand, and brown camouflage scheme: the base is green, with irregular blotches of sand and brown over the top. A large white '1' is painted on the side armour, just in front of the driver's access door.

A squad of 10 Imperial Guard Stormtroopers, made using the plastic multi-part Kasrkin kit with Anvil Industry gas-mask and helmeted heads. Their carapace armour is flat grey, while their trousers are a paler grey; their tunics are blue with pink piping. Their helmets are painted in a green, brown, and sand camouflage pattern with black lines around each colour, just like the WW1 German camouflage pattern often seen on Stosstruppen helmets or machine gun shields from 1916/17 onwards.

We can tell no-one was racist in the 40s because of wonderful multi-cultural all-in-this-together posters like these! I'd have added a US one showing African Americans and white Americans together but I can't find one like that. Don't think about what that means. I'm sure it's for woke reasons.

Number 1 Squad - 10 Imperial Guard troopers advancing at a charge. Their squad sergeant has paused to beckon them on, her vox-operator following. The squad is armed with lasrifles and a flamer. They wear grey trousers and blue tunics with dark blue armour. They have black picklehaubs with gold straps, spikes, and regimental badge on the front. Their tunics are piped in pink, the regimental colour.

No. 2 Squad - 10 Imperial Guard, half advancing, half firing. The sergeant is firing her pistol while the meltagunner next to her braces for the next shot. As before, they wear grey trousers, blue tunics piped in pink, dark blue armour, and gloss black picklehaubs with gold detailing. The troopers carry lasrifles.

No. 3 Squad - missing four troopers, this little group are standing and firing. The sergeant has an autogun, and the weapon specialist has a plasma gun. They wear grey trousers, blue tunic piped pink, dark blue armour, and gloss black picklehaubs with gold detailing just like the rest of the regiment. To their right stands the Lieutenant commanding Blue Platoon, Yellow Company. She is advancing over broken ground, power sword in her right hand, bolt pistol in her left. Her picklehaub has a plume of feathers flowing from the top; they are dyed such that the top half are yellow (denoting the company) and the bottom half are blue (denoting the platoon).

Command Squad - the Lieutenant commanding Red Platoon is flanked by her vox-operator, the platoon's medical orderly, her platoon sergeant, and a trooper. The sergeant and trooper both carry grenade launchers, while the vox-operator and orderly both have lasrifles. All wear the typical infantry uniform of the Paradisan regiments - grey trousers, blue tunic with the regimental colour as piping, dark blue armour, and gloss black picklehaubs with gold detailing. The officer's helmet has a feathered plume, with the top half dyed yellow and the lower half dyed red.

Even Infantry regiments have attached Tech-Priest Engineseers. This is Magos Mighty-Is-The-Motive-Force 1281/E-theta-6, who is responsible for the maintainance and care of the varied machine spirits and equipment within the company they are assigned to. The group of Magi have their own Battalion (and Regimental) engineering posts, with Trojans, Atlases, and Chimeras as well as a number of servitors to aid them in their duties.

The Paradisan people live on - as the name suggests - a paradise world. They do, however, have a rather higher rate of psychic ability than the norm, and their units frequently boast Primaris Psykers attached down to the Company level, not just the Regimental level. This is Andrana Osh, wearing a Paradisan officer's uniform with embellishments from the Adeptus Astra Telepathica.

The Commissars, grim-faced disciplinarians and morale officers, are never from the same planet as the soldiers they serve alongside. However the Commissariat is sensitive to some cultural differences. On Paradiso, women are considered the superior gender and as such men are rarely considered to be capable of leading or even being listened to. So the Commissars assigned by the Commissariat to Paradisan regiments tend to be women... or extremely capable and ruthless.This is Commissar Pravek Zhind, who has been accused of many things, but never leniency.

The Ecclesiarchy's priesthood are frequently seen as venal, corrupt, self-absorbed, self-interested, and cowardly. This is, of course, not the case for the battle-priests of the Ministorum, those holy people who take up arms and see to the souls of the Imperial Guard. The Paradisans are a particularly devout people, and their Regiments often have a much higher number of Drill-Abbots, War-Vicars, and other various preachers, mendicant friars, and so on among their ranks. Preacher Enwynna carries an eviscerator with flame-thrower, and is well known for leading charges, trusting in the Divine Emperor to protect both her and the soldiers following, bayonets fixed.

All are painted flat grey, with large red-white-red identification strips on the front hull side panels. This marks them as Red Squadron, White Battalion, of the Valachian MXI Armoured Regiment. They all have a small blue square with a red A - this is a Crusade Army Group A identification mark. Their turret sides carry black identification markings with white borders: on the left side, a large C for Charlie troop, the third in the squadron; on the right a number (1 for the troop commander's vehicle, 2 and 3 for the remaining two vehicles). The white border denotes White Battalion.

The Vanquisher is armed with a long-barrelled Vanquisher cannon and a hull lascannon; the two Leman Russ have turret battle cannons, sponson heavy bolters, and hull lascannons. Vehicles C1 and C2 have pintle-mount storm bolters; C3 has a single-shot hunter-killer missile system and a searchlight.

The troop commander is wearing dress uniform; he is the famous Valachian tank ace Captain Count Geranium of Bigbush and Littletree.

Two Demolisher infantry support vehicles painted in the two-tone sand khaki and brown of the Rigellian Imperial Guard regiments. These vehicles - A2 and A3 - are from the tank company that is part of White Battalion, Rigellian LIX Mechanised Regiment. Each Battalion has an integral support armour company, with a troop each of Hellhounds, Demolishers, and Griffons. Typically these are broken up and deployed in mixed troops of one Hellhound, one Demolisher and one Griffon per infantry company within the Battalion.

Both vehicles are armed with a turret mounted Demolisher cannon, hull mounted lascannons, and pintle-mounted storm bolters. A3's commander, wearing the brown tanker overalls and thick padded tanker helmet, is out of the turret and gesturing. A2 has an upgraded communications system. Both tanks carry some external stowage, and have large white identification panels on their front side armour plating. The left hand track guards carry a blue square and red A Crusade Army Group A badge.

Two Griffon pattern self-propelled heavy mortars, C1 and C2, from the armoured support company of White Battalion, Rigellian LIX Mechanised Regiment. Their hulls are in the typical khaki and brown desert camouflage of the Rigellian units, while the huge mortars are a flat green. The crews wear a mix of camouflage and grey battledress with flak armour covered in either grey or camouflaged cloth. The camouflage pattern they're wearing is known as "chocolate chip". Both vehicles have pintle-mounted storm bolters on the driver's hatch, and a hull-mounted heavy bolter.

Two Hydra self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery vehicles in the three-tone blue-grey, sand, and khaki Caunter pattern camouflage applied to the armoured vehicles of the Drokharan Taureg regiments. These, B1 and B2, are from the Regimental Anti-Air Battery, identifiable by the black and white identification panels on the front side armour plates. They have track guards covering the front half of their upper track sections, and mount four autocannons in a horizontal rack held within a large octagonal turret mounted at the rear of the Chimera-pattern chassis. Both have a hull-mounted heavy bolter. B1's commander is visible in the top hatch, wearing the standard tanker's brown overalls and black leather helmet with communications system. He is holding a bolt pistol in his left hand. Both vehicles have the blue square with red A identification badge for Crusade Army Group A on their front left track guards.

Ex-Inquisitor Katrina De'Arque, with a different hairstyle and a very different appearance. She has wings, cloven hooves and digitigrade legs, courtesy of the Chaos Gods. She still carries a power sword, and her armour is still gloss black with gold trim; her hair is still blonde... but she is very clearly no longer a loyal Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus!

A Chaos Space Marine called Alpharius, bodyguard and advisor to Katrina De'Arque. It is charging forwards, firing a bolt pistol carried in its right hand. It wears the shimmering blue-green armour plate of the 20th Legion, the Alpha Legion. Its armour bears obvious signs of mutation, and has the silver trim of the Legion's heraldry. Its left hand is a large power fist, and the bolt pistol's targeter is a demonic eye...

A bloodsoaked World Eater, whose mutated armour plate is covered in old and fresh gore. Beneath the blood can be seen the ancient colours of the Legion - white and blue, with golden trim - as well as trophies and icons. It carries a massive power axe in its right hand, and bears a huge sword-sized combat knife in its left. Its name is Shakarr, and it is an advisor and bodyguard to Katrina De'Arque.

A Word Bearer Space Marine strides towards the camera, thunder hammer carried in its right hand, held across the body, head down. In its left hand it carries a plasma pistol. Its head is bare, teeth clenched in a snarl, pale and sickly looking skin covered in the runic script of the Book of Lorgar. A skull sits atop its leather-bound topknot of hair, and its ancient armour plate is the deep dark red of the Word Bearers, trimmed in silver. A monstrous creature's skin is draped across it, and the armour is clearly infested by a daemonic presence. It, too, is an advisor and bodyguard to Katrina De'Arque.

A trio of metal Imperial Guard stormtroopers released by Games Workshop in the late 1990s. They all wear blue-grey fatigues with gloss deep blue carapace armour and gas masks. Two carry hellguns, and the middle one has a grenade launcher. Folded up over their helmets are armoured faceplates, which appear opaque - all have the Inquisitorial three-barred I painted on these faceplates.

A kitbashed 28mm scale plastic miniature of Inquisitor Greyfax. The miniature has had a new head added, using a Tempestus Scion helm. Her weapon has been swapped for a plastic plasma pistol from the old multipart plastic Khorne Berzerker kit, and her high heeled armoured boots have been rebuilt to make them flat armoured boots instead. Her armour's powerpack has a back banner pole with an Inquisitorial Write pinned to it, with a green laurel wreath and white ribbons flying from it. Her armour is grey, with gold trim and red robes.

New haircut (bangs!) and a facemask because protecting others and yourself from airborne illnesses is big, clever, and revolutionary praxis.

A plastic Games Workshop Ballistus Primaris Dreadnought, painted in a three-tone grey urban dazzle camouflage, with all its markings and embossed decorations painted flat black. It is, of course, a Raptors Dreadnought!

A plastic Games Workshop push-fit starter set Redemptor Dreadnought. It, too, is in a three-tone grey urban camo scheme; but its left pauldron is painted a muted olive green with a large white raptor's head. The Raptors Chapter use camouflage, you see!

Another boxy plastc Games Workshop Dreadnought. This one is a lightly kitbashed version from the 5th Edition starter set. It has a white metal grenade launcher from the 1990s 2nd Edition Dreadnought mounted on the top of the torso, and a large plastic back banner - as it is a Black Templar Dreadnought, the banner is white with a large black Maltese Cross.

Two plastic Games Workshop Venerable Dreadnoughts painted as Angels of Redemption 1st Company members. Both are in a two-tone dark green and bone heraldic scheme: the right is green, the left is bone coloured. They each have twin-linked lascannons and a missile launcher for weapons. The one on the left has stylised stained glass style panels and looks a little like a walking chapel; the one on the right is covered in golden panels bearing the names of battles and campaigns it has fought in.

I got vaguely dressed up to go and see my Mum. Not my Dad, he’s not really got over the whole “Having A Daughter” thing. It’s powerful being unapologetically trans in public. The next step is getting hold of corpse paint so I can be unapolagetically goth and trans in public.
