Standing guard in my small way. A politics hound, concerned for my country. Seeking a peace-filled mind. Helpers: furballs, fantasy/sci-fi, books, garden dirt, dark skies. I've been here before.
Sharing some joy of my drippy gardens, following on-again/off-again storms this day. Hope this lends you peace.
While our up-North neighbors fight disastrous fires, friendly-smoke limited our walks a few days. Had to do something to occupy this rescued angel's curiosity & calming nuzzle-chew instinct. Dino-the-dinosaur toy was refreshed to hold a biscuit & carrot treat. More in the fridge just in case.
My new early-morning friend. Territory behind and all around my blueberry bush and air conditioner for weeks. Yet today, I found this angel in my front yard sitting among the roses. I assume a few things: it's a she with babies nearby that want to live in a good home, and eat moles and voles. YEA!!!
On a side-trip today, where someone was a tad questioning of my life choices. Good to slow down a bit.
Peaceful moments. Grateful to have resources, time & interest to cook a delish pot of soup each week. Tried & true, & somewhat new recipes yell from many corners. But fam's obvious favorite is known by hearing spoons scraping bowls. Veg. beef, wins every time 'though ingredients always differ. #Soup
Timeline Cleanser ... Our friend, Toady Toad, returning for the season. When we turn on the porch light at night, Toady seems to take that as a signal to come out for a bug snack. What a beauty. We think it's an American Toad, north suburb of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Welcome back, our dear #Hummingbird families ... first one to the punch today. Followed by smaller version w/yellow neckband, & more vibrant-fast-crazed male colored w-red neck and head. So fast we cannot tell who is who, but they're criss-crossing each other and hopefully brought other fam.
ALERT: Goose traffic in Pittsburgh, PA suburb of Sharpsburg. Bring grapes and lettuce for relief effort.

#Moss Fall Run Park Trail, Glenshaw, Pa. Trickling waterfall of early spring falls over brown sandstone, siltstone, and shale, lending to bright-to-dark green moss and algae blooms. To be there is to hear a trickle, and smell the fresh movement of water over vegetation. Great doggo trail.
Nothing better to stop me in my tracks than to see spring cherry blossoms, and make me forget all the crap for a moment.
In my rabid attempts to not watch the news, I'm turning to my gardening. Thai mint potatoes tomato garlic parsley peas onions tomatoes cantaloupe pumpkin spaghetti squash zinnia mallow sunflower and some things that fell through the cracks that make for CRAZY gardening. Tell me your expert tips!
Who else teaches their child to touch such beautiful, soft, cool, damp beautiful growth? Architect Frank Lloyd Wright's #FallingWater #Moss
#Mushroom Succop Nature Park, Western Pa. Audobon Society, Dryad's Saddle (also known as Pheasant's Back, Cerioporus squamosus). A bit gigger across than my 9.5US Women's shoe! BOY, did this thing STINK!
#Moss Conagree National Forest trail Columbia, SC. Oldest old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in US. Smell was intoxicating, almost not good in deep-heat summer. This may be a Cypress w moss growing root to eye-level, but so many huge strong trees, overcoming everything in their way, incl. trail.
Cleanser: lichen from Succop Nature Park - Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania
Marigold, two potatoes. a big-boy tomato, curly parsley, garlic. On my sill, w/sun-lit kitchen .
We're ready!!!!!! Shovels, gloves, water, snacks, things that'd spoil in freezer. Store didn't have bread so bought flour & yeast (damn hoarders) & two bags of pet-safe melter. We have our snow eliminator friend on call. BRING IT. Still love our mix 'Burgh, incl snow blizzards. warts and all.
Spring hopes eternal, with my windowsill herbs "garden" blooming an unexpected and beautiful golden marigold bloom. Can't wait to get my hands dirty again this spring.
Let's all grab our squids and wonder what's to come. Knowing there's a Mom in the background to make sure it's all peaceful.
'Cause yinz r special, U get to peak into my paper bag of the freshest just-outta-the-oven & only-REAL NewYr Pretzel from Pittsburgh's @SouthsidePretzel Shop. No sweets, just traditional Carbs & chunky salt that have healing powers, I'm told by the nice lady at the Southside redlight 🙂 #2026Goals
Most best view of the day, outside kitchen window. Love this time of year and the first sprinkles of snow
Cleanser post: A snip of my most tall and active tree, shimmering in the coming W. Pa. storm winds against a chilly fall blue sky. I think it's a Poplar--anybody know for sure? Taller than all the others and a bit of a show-off. I spend a lot of time watching this beauty. It's titillating.
