Their jaw answered with eager promptness. What flash of pain seized their teeth was so sudden and so severe that their mouth locked open, drool escaping from the corners of cracked lips. Their body quivered pathetically. Help me… help… help…! Eyes frozen wide, they couldn't stop tears from leaking, dripping, mixing with their saliva and pooling into a disgusting mess beneath their head. It wouldn't be the first nor the last time their eyes would betray them — their right eye was already useless, vision blurred even without the aid of tears to the point of being a liability.

Perhaps the frustration shows on his face.

The uncomfortable grit of sand dampened by the naked cold of a natural stream isn't exactly unfamiliar to Xenoir, but he's been spoiled by ever-warm baths and silky soaps and luxurious oils. He can feel his lips stretch taut against his teeth with every frigid splash against his skin, his eyes involuntarily squeezing shut against the errant arid wind. Adventuring was an unnatural lifestyle to him and every reminder of what comfort he sacrifices day after day in the name of people he truly could not give less of a care about only steels his heart more against the very concept of altruism.

When his eyes peel back open, lids heavy with dried salt and resentment, his gaze drifts over to meet Ilberd's.

He must be imagining the look of disgust there.
