FOUR PAWS

🐾 Animal Welfare. Worldwide. 🌐 REVEAL. 📣 RESCUE. ❤️ PROTECT. 🌳 #FOURPAWS
⚠️ The @europarl.europa.eu is still failing to agree on new rules for live animal transport. We launched a billboard campaign across Brussels calling on MEPs to end this needless suffering. Animals deserve stronger protection, NOW. Sign our petition to #StopTransportSuffering: bit.ly/4vwTtzy
On today’s EU PAW Plenary agenda: the role of stakeholders in implementing the new EU rules on the welfare and #traceability of #dogs & #cats. Our Head of EU Policy, G. Diamantopoulou, took part in the panel discussion to help ensure strong implementation that delivers real impact. #EU4AnimalWelfare
The Subgroup on Animal Welfare Indicators presented its conclusions at today’s EU Platform on Animal Welfare. Indicators help translate science into measurable outcomes and strengthen welfare monitoring. They complement, never replace, strong, species-specific animal welfare laws. #EU4AnimalWelfare
Marilena D'Auria, European Policy Office Specialist, represented FOUR PAWS in calling on the EU to #StopTransportSuffering "While policymakers are bickering, EU citizens have been clear. They expect political leaders to base decisions on societal values & scientific evidence".
@tillymetz.bsky.social stood with us in front of the @europarl.europa.eu to urge to #StopTransportSuffering. "It's a file about animals but I hear only competitiveness, I only hear that business most go on. Worst, we have to simplify, we have to deregulate. [...] It is a scandal!"
@manuelaripa.bsky.social joined us today in front of the @europarl.europa.eu to call on the EU to #StopTransportSuffering and thank all the scientists, the veterinarians, all the citizens and NGOs who were here today to show we care for the animals in Europe.
Can higher #animalwelfare and a resilient #farming sector go hand in hand? Yes. FOUR PAWS presented an Animal Welfare Roadmap, building on a Dutch framework, for a coherent, science-based and fair transition for farmers under the #CAP, with standards to become legally binding in the long run.
Stronger animal welfare is a game-changer for sustainable farming. 🌍🐄 As our Global Advocacy Expert Sophie Aylmer noted: “In practice, livestock is still often treated as a sector by itself, rather than as a potential driver of climate resilience and ecosystem management”. #OneHealth
FOUR PAWS advocates for: ✅ National & regional One Health PPPR plans addressing spillover drivers ✅ Legal, multisectoral coordination mechanisms ✅ More funding for animal & environmental health ✅ Supporting lower-income countries at highest risk ✅ Better alignment across global prevention frameworks
Today’s EBCD intergroup agenda: delivering implementation of the new EU rules on the welfare and #traceability of #dogs & #cats. We must ensure that the new #framework is enforced while safeguarding a level playing field across the internal market for responsible pet-sector actors.
The ongoing outbreaks of zoonotic diseases, including #Ebola and #Hantavirus, are a stark reminder that human health, animal welfare and environmental protection cannot be treated separately. 🦠🐾 ⚠️ These zoonotic diseases originate in animals, but animals are not the root cause.
Key takeaways from our side-event: 🛡️ Prevention is essential 🌱 One Health needs stronger agriculture & environment engagement 💰 Countries need financing & technical support 🌍 Sustainable food systems can tackle AMR and climate challenges together 🤝 We need implementation and political leadership
As countries implement the updated Global Action Plan on AMR, discussions at #WHA79 are shifting to delivery. 🌍 We co-convened a side event on advancing #OneHealth solutions. The challenge is no longer identifying solutions to #antimicrobialresistance, but ensuring effective implementation.
Earlier this month, the @europarl.europa.eu officially adopted the EU Regulation on the welfare and traceability of dogs and cats. 🐶🐈 The @consilium.europa.eu, representing the EU Member States, has also given its final approval! 👏
We are advancing several key initiatives, including: 🐄 A joint document on improving farm #animalwelfare to reduce the need for #antimicrobials 📚 An e-learning module on animal welfare and AMR 🤝 Supporting governments in integrating animal welfare into their National Action Plans on AMR.
We thank Desmond Boateng, Chief Director of Ghana’s Ministry of Health, for drawing attention at the #WorldHealthAssembly to tackling #pandemicprevention at the source with a #OneHealth approach. Strong cross-sector collaboration is key to preventing future pandemics and building a safer world.
During the #WorldHealthAssembly, FOUR PAWS, as a co-convener of the Friends of the 2026 UN High-Level Meeting on #PandemicPrevention, Preparedness and Response, co-organised a Member State roundtable on identifying cornerstones of success for the upcoming UN Political Declaration on Pandemic PPR. 🤝
Many food companies say they care about farm animal welfare, but are they delivering? 🍽️ The new BBFAW report shows progress on cage-free eggs & sow welfare, but many companies still fail to turn promises into real change for animals. 💔 Read the report ➡️ lnkd.in/dv_9JpJe #FarmAnimals #BBFAW
The @ec.europa.eu said it needed scientific evidence on fur—so why is it ignoring it now? @efsa.europa.eu found that most welfare issues in fur farming can't be prevented or mitigated. Yet the Commission may reject an EU-wide fur farming ban and introduce low standards. #UnFURgivable #FurFreeEurope
It’s official! @europarl.europa.eu formally approved new EU rules on dog & cat welfare and traceability, helping combat illegal trade. Key wins include: ✔️ Mandatory identification & registration ✔️ Minimum breeding standards ✔️ Online pet sale verification @consilium.europa.eu will follow suit soon!
