Oh! I didn't realize that was the finial atop the entrance gate pillar - the actual motel was an example of 1920's Streamline Moderne architecture, which I absolutely adore although in this case perhaps a bit overdone rather than aiming for a single ship-like or streamlined profile.

A phototaken in winter of a 1920's motel. The grass is brown and trees are barren of leaves. The single story units of the motel are painted yellow and feature curved walls, several horizontal stripes in brown near the top of the walls, and floor to ceiling curved windows made of glass blocks. Each unit also has a garage door, a front door painted in the same brown as the horizontal stripes, and a traditional window. There is a mid to late 1970's white sedan parked in front of one of the units, and scattered green bushes as part of the landscaping. The sky is hazy with high clouds and there is a electric pole in the center of the photo in front of the motel units, with wires running to either side of the photo.

As a Firefighter of 20 plus years and a homeless advocate, I have said it for years. This Absolutely was a predictable fire when you criminalize homeless forcing them to go deeper and deeper into the brush where there are denser fuel loads… Redding and Shasta County refuse to take responsibility for the total lack of shelter space. Authorities allow homeless to camp in a box canyon, and wonder why a fire races up the hill. Make no mistake, if there was double digit wind speeds to go along with the single digit humidities and triple digit temperatures during this fire houses and quite possibly lives would certainly have been lost. I believe for some reason the county has property where this fire started. I have also talked to Redding Fire Investigator Dean Herzberg from the past who told me he believes homeless haters love to start fires in their camps to generate total hatred for them. Redding City Council and Shasta County Supervisors, You made the Wine, now drink the Cup.

Nah, "bug" is a limited subset of insects that includes cicadas and aphids. Compound eyes are fascinating though! (I agree, the headlights do look more like frogs' eyes than bug eyes)

The six counties w/o stations told Cal Fire, "nah, we're good". I agree though that the $150 fee/tax/whatever is wrong. California is supposed to be a wee bit more socialist than that. I guess it goes along with pay-as-you-go hwy lanes. There's also a fleet of these guys that serve all counties:

It's frustrating when the captcha AI has no real world experience and duh, no actual consciousness. Nearly all PC style keyboards from the last 25-30 years will float on water. I wouldn't try to build Kon-Tiki with them, but they do float. The only accepted answer btw is the four waterfowl squares.
