Queer genderfluid fashion disaster. Recovering ex-Christian, ex-military officer, Naval Academy graduate, all the normie shit.
It’s still happening here. The tragedy is that USA is not leading as it could have been doing 30 years ago, avoiding much of the suffering that is ramping up all over the world. And of course our numbers should be higher than they are. cleanpower.org/wp-content/u...
Another book to recommend! Black Craft by Robell Awake left me wanting to do a road trip through the American South and see all these amazing communities and artwork. Very cool stuff!!
Wow, the pedo glasses are being used in exactly the way that we all said 2 years ago. NYT coverage of this is equally unsurprising.
Mega projects like the Key Bridge job require careful systems engineering to keep costs under control. I don’t know the specifics of what’s going on right now, but this graph is a helpful perspective imho.
And I almost forgot the GOP connection, which started in the 1970s or earlier:
Happy Earth Day. I enjoyed talking to my son about this columbine plant, a gift from a friend who I met when we moved here. I was lonely and thought maybe giving away tomato starts would help me meet neighbors. I got 2 new friends in return. 😊
Examples throughout illustrate how Brown only endorsed violence as a tactic in the total absence of other options. If John Brown had a single fatal flaw, I think it’s that he failed to understand how unique he was as a white anti-racist in 1859. Even Frederick Douglass was in awe of his courage.
Outstanding book by Evan Carton! Busted myth: “John Brown as crazed violent radical”. Reality: Brown was relentlessly hopeful that slavery could end w/o the massive bloodshed that ultimately occurred at the hands of the military officers who arrested him, including Robert E Lee and JEB Stuart.
For those who are wondering, the Benchmade Infidel costs $550. Can confirm from my military experience that this tool probably has zero value in aircraft maintenance.
“Here’s a nice piece of shit.” -Billy Madison James Buchanan, founding father of modern conservatism, including the term “conservative” which intended to hide the extremism. Then, this meant trying to privatize VA schools rather than desegregate. Also, he got the Nobel Prize. 🥴 Cred. Nancy MacLean
Horrifying shit from Annie Jacobsen’s “Nuclear War: A Scenario”, description of 1983 Proud Prophet nuclear war game.
Let’s be the courageous people that our descendants will boast about someday.
Re: “children from tweens to 28”, I desperately plead w/everyone who has these people in their lives to read books like this & invest large portions of your time into education. Bonus points to people who do this with kids who aren’t their own. This is one of the only truly impactful opportunities.
But people liked it because they’d get pretty views of the mountains during their 1 hr car commute from hell to/from work. This pic doesn’t do it justice, but hopefully enough to make my point. I’m not defending anything, just trying to show the viewpoint.
To illustrate the viaduct example - see, the area with this road is ugly as shit
I keep hearing people say, “We need a new Tea Party but for leftists!” Probably worth pausing a moment to recall what the Tea Party actually was - a bunch of corporate funded racists advocating murder of President Obama. I.e. mostly indistinguishable from MAGA
No doubt! Hopefully it’s the kind of island where I can use this wonderful device. 😊
Jon Krakauer used this quote in Into Thin Air. I bought a copy while wandering around Marseilles hungover back in my Navy days. I’ve ever since been looking for a copy of the damn Charles Bowden book. It’s felt weirdly relevant for over 20 years.
One single page and so many parallels with our current situation with the ketchup thrower. From 𝐷𝑒𝑎𝑡ℎ 𝑜𝑓 𝐷𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑦 by Benjamin Carter Hett
From a new favorite, The Quiet Ways I Destroy You by Jessica McHugh
I like this ideal from David Graeber and David Wengrow, but nowadays I see far more people bowing before the big apes than mocking them. Maybe we are actively regressing in this way. The image is one of us consciously forfeiting our humanity, whatever that means.
