#OTD my paternal grandparents, John STANLEY and Margaret “Margie” WEINER got married 82 years ago (ie in 1944). Happy anniversary to them! #AncestryHour
Yeah. I definitely got more an insight into my family. I did get to put three stones done on the Holocaust Memorial in the Judenplatz in memory of my GGPs and great-aunt on the inscription of the camp at which they were murdered. #GenHour
Hi #GenHour. I got my mat GF’s birth cert on Tuesday (see below). Question: Would this be an original (because it’s a birth cert) or derivative source (because the entire thing is typed up)? This is the first time I’ve encountered a birth cert that seems to be both an original and derivative record.
#OTD 110 years ago, my great-GPs (Mom’s mat GPs), Isadore “Isie” SAVODNIK & Beckie GOLD, married in New York City. The collection was made by their 2nd daughter, my Great-aunt Frances, likely for their 50th anniversary. The 1st pic is from their 1915 engagement; the 2nd pic is from 1966. #Genealogy
#AncestryHour, has anyone gotten this message on their AncestryHour feed? Does this mean that AncestryHour will be gone soon?
Grandpa John probably didn't find out what happened in general to his parents and sister until 1945 or 1946. Grete's husband, Siegfried KAISER, didn't even know where his wife and parents-in-law were in 1943. (By this point he was in Switzerland.) 16/ #GenHour #YomHaShoah
Evidently, Grete decided to become a nurse in 1941. The back of the second picture says (translating it from German) "Exam day." (In the second picture, Grete in the middle of the front row.) 14/ #GenHour #YomHaShoah
By the time this photo was taken - if it was taken in 1941 - their immediate family was broken up. Their son/brother was in the US & their son-in-law/husband was in Italy w/ Jonas' brother & children. From left: Margarethe "Grete" (STEINHAUS) KAISER, Eleanor and Jonas. 12/ #GenHour #YomHaShoah
In November 1938, the Leopoldstadter Temple (where Grandpa John had his bar mitzvah ~1926) - along with 95 other synagogues and prayer halls in Vienna - was destroyed in Kristallnacht. It was only a two minute walk from their apartment building. 12/ #GenHour #YomHaShoah
Here is a photo of Grandpa John, in the middle - I think in the 1940s - w/ his (later?*) cousin-in-law Charles "Chuck" VOGL on the left & his adopted brother Howard KLEE on the left. (The Klee's sponsored him.) (* I don't know if this is before or after his 1944 marriage) 5/ #GenHour #YomHaShoah
