When I say Rosie is the BEST kitty, I mean it. This lady looked like this before I started vacuuming until I finished. She never flinched. I even bumped her chair! Afterwards, she got up, went to her bowl, took her medicine like a champ, ate, then waited for me to sit down, and curled up on my lap.🥰

A month from now, I will have completely lost control of my balcony. The morning glories will frame the door and explode with flowers. The salvias will be 3’ tall, providing me with my secret garden, within which I read, and listen to the world around me. #garden #nature #balconygarden

Others have dahlias and petunias. Two hanging pots with multiple flower varieties. Two pots on either side of the sliding glass door grow morning glories, which climb up the sides, guided by twine to frame the door.

This Tutu Morning Glory bloomed early from a seed sown by Tutus I planted in my pots last year. It’s a prolific bloomer, blooms all summer long, and every flower looks different. I highly recommend it!

Happy Father’s Day to my dad! I agree, he’s adorable. He’s also a good, good person. He’s kind, sweet, generous, and an all around great guy. Not one person has a bad thing to say about him. Deaf his entire life, he has always been a great provider, and an even better friend! ❤️🤟 I love you, Dad!

Every year, I plant flowers in the pots in the courtyard. This year, I have been frustrated by squirrels digging them up daily. I read that plastic forks might deter this behavior. I tried it last night, and today only one plant was dislodged! Hopefully, this will continue to work!

Check out this ocean of wild geraniums I found in my local forest preserve. They went on and on…!

An established woodland with so many pale lilac-colored wild geraniums, the color blends together. They virtually hide the Kelly-green leaves beneath.

While walking around the condo property today, I discovered that we have an American Tulip Tree! Over 20 years, I never noticed it. One of the largest native trees to North America!

Deep green lobed leaves surround a “tulip”. The bud is open, with a cup-like appearance. The petals are orange at the base, becoming green at the tips.

Pulling garlic mustard today, I found this stunning Jack in the pulpit, and what I think is Illinois Greenbriers. The Jack was at least a foot tall, with its leaves being 6 inches long. The greenbrier didn’t have any thorns, which is why I think it’s the Illinois variety.

One large, about 10”, mushroom, atop a fallen log. It appears to be in two parts, almost saddle shaped. It is ivory colored, with small brown spots. Possibly Dryad’s Saddle.

I was gone for several hours today, and when I came home, I could hear Rosie meowling right inside the door. I opened the door to find her sitting with her back to the door, facing the living room. She was happy to see me. At 15 years old, I think dementia might be setting in. I’m here, Rosie.

Caught two little tiny sunfish today. Or just one, who has trouble learning from past mistakes. Learn your lessons now, little one. #fishing #nature

I made a last minute decision to go fishing today. My first outing of the season. It paid off! I caught a bass! A little one, but still. I caught a bass! #fishing #nature #bass

More great flora. Jack in the pulpit is a first for me to see in the wild. Sensitive fern. Trillium with a bud color I’ve not seen before. Get out there, my friends!

More spring ephemerals were evident during my volunteer work today. These were all new finds for me today! Eastern shooting star, largeflower bellwort, and a morel mushroom!

A spongy, brainy-looking mushroom sits beneath the shade of two trillium plants. The trilliums each have a plum colored bud. Morel mushroom.

Two stems shoot up about 8 inches. Atop each stem are small buds. Some buds are hanging downward. Two buds have opened, to reveal white flowers with 5 petals pointed upward, as the center of the flowers point downward. A trillium is to the right. Shooting Star.

A slim 10 inch stem has long, slender leaves near the top. The stem curves downward, as a long-petaled yellow flower hangs down. Bellwort.

Lovely spring ephemerals popping up all over my local forest preserves! Catch them while you can! Prairie trillium, violets, trout lilies, and Dutchman’s breeches pictured. #nature #springephemeral #gardening

Trillium. A single 6 inch stalk, with 3 green mottled leaves hanging down, and a plum colored bud at the top.

Violets. 9 blooms on single 4 inch stalks, growing among grass and a dandelion. The blooms are white with purple spots.

Trout lilies growing in the grass. 3 green mottled leaves grow from the ground, with thin stalks sticking out. Two flowers hang down from the top of the stalks. One is white, about to open. The other is spent, with two yellow petals withered.

Dutchman’s breeches. The leaves are similar to bleeding heart leaves. A single stem shoots out, with 3 white flowers hanging in a row. The flowers resemble upside down trousers.
