Novelist and short-story writer; Alaskan Brit who still says "Blimey!" and drinks tea though left Blighty over 30 years ago. Currently having a very hard time with Trump 2.0--my 2023 novel Turnback Ridge was supposed to be speculative fiction!
Identified a merlin on the Merlin app! Wow they are loud--turned out to be four of them cruising around. Managed to see one through binoculars. Wonderful start to the day!
Went on a trip to Montana and found bison behind our motel on day one!
He rubbed his head in fox pee and is very pleased with himself.
He's on the counter because I mopped the kitchen floor and now it Smells Funny.
I live in Alaska and just spent a few days in LA, where apparently it's the future with robot delivery carts and driverless cars!
He put himself in the corner and sat there for ages thinking deep thoughts. Or plotting mischief. Probably plotting mischief.
My boy looking out at the snow that's just fallen (and is still falling) . . . It's been the coldest winter in 120 years of recorded history in Fairbanks and we were hoping for spring.
After the coldest winter in 120 years of recorded history in Fairbanks, it has warmed up! I took a photo of my doggo enjoying the spring sunshine on a nice long walk. Notice him giving me the side-eye.
He's developed an obsession with grapes (he wants to play with them) and has learned how to open the cupboard where we hide them. Clever boy!
Cat is obsessed with grapes and crackers. I hid grapes and crackers in cupboard. Cat has learned to open cupboard. Outwitted by cat so am going back to bed.
My boy, Minou, acting as though he's supposed to be up there. I get it--these days, what do rules matter? 😀
The hiring of bounty hunters to snatch immigrants is exactly what I depicted in my speculative novel, Turnback Ridge, written during the first Trump presidency. I never thought that it would come to pass--but apparently I was wrong. theintercept.com/2025/10/31/i...
The White House put this out today after he praised himself for "SAVING" NYC from congestion pricing and wrote "LONG LIVE THE KING." It's not like he's even trying to hide what he thinks he is.
Been in hospital since Tuesday when I slipped on the ice and fractured my hip. It sounds miserable and isn't fun, but I have had fab nurses, the food's good and had the best roomie. Hopefully going home today!
We caved and got this little muffin just before Christmas. Until the first vet visit on Tuesday our sweetie was Mina . . . then the vet found a tiny pair of testicles so hey, now this is Minou.
