@get-effed
Fuck off anyone who puts 'all views are my own' here.
FINAL SCORE It was very close until 2018, but then ITV just had that edge and the BBC didn't have the legs. BBC 4-6 ITV
2026 USA / CANADA / MEXICO verdict A walkover for ITV. Men against boys. England versus France in the first half of the third place play-off. Simply dominant. And I can't believe I actually like a fucking Disney song
2022 - QATAR verdict I'd actually forgotten how good ITV's intro was. It's actually made me a bit emotional. I mean, it helped that I watched the group stages while on holiday in Florida, but still, a resounding, dominant victory for the Granada / Carlton / STV combination
2014 - BRAZIL verdict Fuck me, the 2014 World Cup was fucking brilliant. Even the shit matches were great. The BBC understood the assignment: their victory here is as crushing as Germany's semi-final against the hosts. Absolutely no contest
2010 - SOUTH AFRICA verdict Neither side at their best, but ITV run out winners here in a nervy match. One for the purists
2002 - JAPAN / SOUTH KOREA verdict Well, this one wasn't even a contest: the BBC were absolutely in control of this one
1998 - FRANCE verdict The BBC's is a valiant effort and one that still hits hard in the nostalgia gland, but fuck me, ITV's is just fucking outstanding
1994 - USA verdict The most obvious winner so far. The BBC proper fucking gave it some and ITV just sort of left it to the work experience lad
1990 - ITALY verdict Alas, ITV's criminally under-appreciated effort can do nothing to stop the BBC's "Nessum Dorma" juggernaut. Almost any other year, ITV would win this, but this is a resounding victory for the Beeb
1986 - MEXICO verdict Even if the visuals of ITV's effort were shit (which they aren't), the sheer brilliance of "Aztec Gold" would see it through. As good as the BBC's one is, ITV absolutely fucking leather this one like Gary Lineker leathered Poland
It's the day of the 2026 World Cup final, and as part of the build-up I am pleased to bring you the Official Get Effed BBC versus ITV Battle of World Cup Intros. Two titans go head-to-head through the years, but who comes out on top?
Anadol decided that they couldn't produce it profitably, though, so it was shelved. Gandini refined the styling further for a design for Volvo, the Tundra, based on the dull old 343. Fucking HELL, what a gem
Back in the 1970s Reliant did a lot of consultancy work for other manufacturers, and they developed the FW11 for Turkish marque Anadol, with angular styling by Marcello Gandini of Bertone. Cool, eh?
Citroën BX. The choice of the discerning shagger. Styled by the same bloke that came up with the Lamborghini Countach, y'know. And old-school French number plates are simply cooler than penguin piss
Everyone is saying "Ronaldo this" and "Ronaldo that" but nobody is saying "worship this" or "Jericho that"
Anyway, bollocks to Five Children and It. Dark Season kicked the shit out of it. Fucking great series yet only about nine people watched it and about four people remember it. Ludicrous
It was especially jarring given that this woolly throwback old bollocks was shown around the same sort of time as the excellent Dark Season
Had enough of having a go at shite adverts for now. Today I'm going to have a go at this stuck-up, dusty little gremlin bastard and his unbearable jolly-hockey-sticks colleagues. What a fucking awful programme. Didn't even have a good theme tune to redeem it
Been watching a lot of daytime telly lately, and by far the worst thing about it is the series of travel insurance adverts featuring these two utter bastards. Never has anyone been so undeservedly smug. Fucking awful cunts, the pair of them
Ah, the Fiat Strada. A sloppily-built, pig-faced wretch. I fucking love it. Coolest wheels of any production car in history
