It would be poignant — and easy! — to make a montage of people going about their normal lives with wildfires looming in the background. Perhaps a fitting homage to our climate inaction. 🥺 ‘Golf under fire’ is almost ten years old now!
Yup. Canadian wildfires are expected to worsen in the future, as our warming climate increases their frequency and severity. This is pretty much a statement of fact. Sadly.
Yes! Wildfire smoke seems to be everywhere at the moment. Here’s the Anthropocene sunset in Eastern Ontario this evening. 😶🌫️
Sadly, it’s no surprise that climate change is making El Niño events more ferocious. 🌊 Here’s IPCC AR6 Box 11.4 saying that extreme El Niños occur more frequently in a warming world. ⤵️ Still, the exceedance magnitude of this summer’s event beyond all previous events is eye opening. 👀
These specialized vehicles will support our FirnMelt project in researching the shifting fate of meltwater in the near-surface layers of the Greenland ice sheet and its effects on ice dynamics. Supported by @erc.europa.eu !
We’ve just finished a fantastic second Lead Author Meeting for the @ipcc.bsky.social Seventh Assessment Report in Santiago de Chile! #IPCC #AR7 #LAM2 #ClimateScience #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #ClimatePolicy #Adaptation #Mitigation
We're back baby! 🎉🎬 Our film -- The Color of Ice -- has been invited back to the UNG:DOX film festival in March 2026. UNG:DOX is the arm of CPH:DOX that introduces younger folks to documentary film as an art form and reflection on society. Check out cphdox.dk for the full festival lineup.
Our new study documents glacier loss in the Himalaya accelerating since 2003. Annual ice losses are consistent with those projected under the high emissions scenario. This is impactful, but not joyful, science led by Javed Hassan (DTU). ⤵️ Open-access article: ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/113...
🚨 If you're a Canadian-curious researcher currently based outside of Canada, you need to check out the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs programme! 🚨 Competitive single-PI grants for up to 1M CAD/yr for eight years (8M CAD!) to attract folks to Canada! 🤩 #ElbowsUp 🫠
Yes! @icymatters.bsky.social and I are seeking a project coordinator for using highly specialized vehicles on the Greenland ice sheet! It's a four-year position across two projects: 'Seis-Sustain' funded by the @novo-nordisk.bsky.social and 'FirnMelt' funded by @erc.europa.eu.
Our first Lead Author Meeting of the #IPCC Seventh Assessment Report was an incredible experience last week! Merci @ipcc.bsky.social! Now, we are writing our way towards zero-order-draft (ZOD). #LAM1 #ClimateScience #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #ClimatePolicy #Adaptation #Mitigation #AR7
Yes, this week Lead Authors for the @ipcc.bsky.social Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) are meeting in Paris — almost 700 of us across all three working groups! As IPCC Chair Jim Skea shares, there's even some highest-level climate diplomacy happening beyond the plenary sessions. 👇
Hey Cryoverse! 👋 If you need any motivation to call for action on the #AmbitionForMeltingIce at #COP30, check out the Glacier Casualty List. It's a global summary of 'critically endangered' & 'disappeared' glaciers and their stories. It's really happening. 🧊💧 ➡️ glaciercasualtylist.rice.edu
Happy Halloween! 🎃 — Otherwise known as '500 days until the IPCC AR7 WG1 literature submission deadline'! 🇺🇳 Our climate community has the observations, the models and the mission — let’s make AR7 legendary! 👊🌏 #IPCC #AR7 #IPCCAR7 #ClimateScience #ScienceForPolicy #PeerReview @ipcc.bsky.social
Hey ice-sheet modellers! 👋 It’s time to register for the Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project (ISMIP) protocol workshop being hosting here in Copenhagen (at GEUS) 23-25 March 2026. Register: www.tilmeld.dk/ismip7worksh... Learn more at how ISMIP supports the IPCC process: www.ismip.org
Something to keep in mind before getting too excited about these new ski planes…

The Semper Crevasses project is keeping us busy on the ice sheet this week! Here's the view into one of Greenland's newest crevasses, which has opened in recent months at 2000 m elevation above sea-level about 100 km inland from Ilulissat Glacier front. 🎥 Anders Graver / Humbug Films
Yes, it’s @ipcc.bsky.social time! 🤩🥳 IPCC AR7 starts now! I'm excited to be embarking on the AR7 journey with so many bright scientists! You've heard that it takes a village to raise a baby? Same thing with an IPCC chapter! 💙👊 #IPCC #AR7 #ClimateScience #ClimateAction #ScienceForPolic
Happy Canada Day! 🥳🇨🇦 Wow, has the world changed since this time last year! I definitely saw more Canadian pride on display today than I’ve seen in a long time -- a very long time! Check out our community at www.canadiansindenmark.org!
