As always on June 9th, we remember the service of Private Charles Cornwell of Winnipeg, of 2nd Battalion, Canadian Scottish Regiment, who died at Juno Beach on 9 June 1944, aged 21. He is buried at the Beny-sur-Mer cemetery at Reviers, Normandy. #LestWeForget
CURLSASK is getting ready for the 2026-2027 season beginning with these events in August.
Very pleased to appear on Bill Tschirhart’s A Pane in the Glass podcast this week… naturally with brushing on the menu. Available on Apple podcasts and various other channels.
Recently-arrived Leonardo pens from Italy: a limited edition Momento Zero Grande “Ocean Breeze” in <F>, and two Momento Zero GT’s with cursive italic <F> nibs: “Clouds” and “Lava e Cenere”. The former two inked with Diamine Majestic Blue and the latter in Faber-Castell Stone Grey. All are amazing.
Announcement: Proposed merger of Curling Ontario, Northern Ontario Curling Association, and Ontario Curling Council! This unified provincial sport organization aims to enhance growth and administration in curling across the province.
I think many curlers are unaware that Asham’s sells their Velocity prismatic handles in both 48- and 54-inch lengths. The 54-inch can be very helpful for tall players who, say, are over 6’ 2”. Regrettably they do not come with a grip coating, and are not 100% carbon fibre. 1/2
A wonderful first Christmas with my new grandson. I gave him these authentic Asham two-tone leather shoes. In return his parents gave me this children’s curling book, complete with crinkly pages for infants and toddlers, from Purple Potato Books (on Etsy). Adorable!

Many thanks to Stu Sells for sponsoring the Brantford Nissan Classic this weekend. Team Lovitt is grateful to their sponsors for permitting us to play this season: Bondi Distillery (Coco Rum), GVE Lawyers in Ottawa, Trevor Marsh at Assante Wealth Management, Collin Johnson at The Co-operators, 1/2
Today, 17 November, is #InternationalStudentsDay. Today the day is a celebration of students and student life. Originally the day was founded following the murder of Czech student leaders at the University of Prague by the Nazis in 1939 following demonstrations against Nazi occupation. #WeRemember
Many in my extended family served in either WW1 or WW2, including my father, but on Remembrance Day I particularly remember my Uncle Ken, terribly wounded on August 1 1944, and Leslie’s Uncle Charlie, my cousin Frank Paulley, and Bernice’s brother Don who did not come home. #LestWeForget
Very pleased and impressed that the North Grenville Curling Centre in Kemptville is fully behind the principles of #TrueSport. And so are Team Lovitt.
These are my go-to papers. The A5 C.D. notebook paper is available both lined and unlined.
Something I've observed over the past few weeks, especially when teams are trying to "carve", or accentuate curl.
I was tremendously honoured to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Builder category from Curling Ontario this past weekend, presented during the Association's AGM in Cobourg, ON.
Many thanks to Ian Tetley and his staff at Oakville Curling for hosting the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard this weekend. While Team Lovitt didn’t qualify for playoffs we had a terrific first event of the season. Best wishes to all of the remaining teams still in the hunt!
Just received this ONOTO Scholar fountain pen from Cult Pens in the UK. Navy with gold accents, its fine nib writes smoothly and beautifully. A new favourite.
Looking forward to testing the new Balance Plus “grey” foam at practice over the next two weeks, now that Team Lovitt has ice at KW Granite and at Oakville.
Just received this lovely Leonardo Momento Magico fountain pen from @laywines.bsky.social in Toronto. Piston filler, inked with Diamine Majestic Blue, my favourite ink. Writes beautifully. The size fits my hand well and I love the ink window on the barrel. Beautiful pen.
Here at the ALS Canada Walk to End ALS at Toronto’s Ash Bridges Park with Sarah Leung of Team Lovitt today. Really appreciate Sarah being one of the volunteers here today. 💕 Many thanks to friends and family who have donated to ALS Canada in Leslie’s memory this year.
Newly acquired, this Kyoto Elegance Yamanaka fountain pen from Celsius, and sold by Komorebi Stationery. Comes with a Schmidt Iridium fine nib, which interestingly writes much smoother than some of my other pens with Iridium nibs. Beautiful pen and I appreciate the heft of the metal body.
With many thanks to @cultpens.bsky.social I procured this very nice Pelikan Souveran M800 (F) in red and black. Writes beautifully, as one would expect from a Pelikan fountain pen. A new love for writing my correspondence. Inked with Diamine Majestic Blue.
Just received this lovely Esterbrook Estie Botanical oversize fountain pen via PenBoutique this afternoon. I love the added diameter of the oversized barrel and the fine nib writes exceptionally well. Well done Esterbrook… I have a new favourite. Inked with Diamine Majestic Blue.
Put a stick out on your porch tonight. The boys might need a spare. #humboldtbroncos
Having seen a number of posts in the Fountain Pen feed #fountainpen regarding the suitability of various stationery for fountain pens, these are my go-to papers: my CD notebook in A5 format, and G. Lalo writing paper, also in A5. The G. Lalo is simply beautiful paper.
These are in numerous places in my neighbourhood of Waterloo.
I just received this Platinum Vicoh Kanazawa gold leaf “Autumn Leaves” fountain pen with an 18K medium nib, from Take Note pens in Toronto. Inked with Diamine Majestic Blue. Absolutely exquisite. Writes like a dream. The finest pen I own.
