I bill on an hourly basis. My standard rate is $50 USD per labor hour for all services except for line editing, for which the charge is $60 USD per labor hour. If you're stuck on a manuscript or haven't even begun writing it yet, you may like:

Book Doctoring: If a story just isn't coming together or you don't know how to complete it, I can help you get to the finish line.
Manuscripts are tricky animals that can get stuck for many reasons. I'll work with you to help you identify what's getting in the way, both on a story and craft level and in terms of your writing process. Highly popular service.

Artistic Consultation: Stories take work even before you write them, and may require planning and consideration on the concept level. I'll help you refine your artistic vision, plan for your story, and identify what may intimidate you about writing it. This may include using an outline or similar tools if you feel they're a good fit for you. Highly popular service.

If you have a finished manuscript, you may be seeking:

Developmental Editing (AKA content editing: Big-picturing editing that focuses on the bedrock of the book-
-the characters,
character development, pacing, plot, theme, consistency, and setting. This typically occurs before other steps of editing (see below) but can sometimes be concurrent with them. Highly popular service.

Line Editing: Editing on the page and line level, which includes language, dialogue, scene set-up, action flow, fine-level characterization, and helping prevent writing errors of fact or logic. This process focuses on precision, clarity, and consistency, but involves more attention to artistry than a copyedit alone.

Copyediting: If you need a text proofed and refined but don't need as much attention as a full line edit, this is a useful option. The emphasis on technical detail tends to result in a less labor-intensive process than a line edit.

Artistic Ethics Consultation: My approach to the practice of sensitivity reading. While most editing traditionally focuses on the craft and artistry of a writer's work, this service focuses on what I call artistic ethics. We all want our creative works to responsibly represent who we are and have a positive impact on our audience, without doing harm or disrespecting vulnerable populations. Bear God and I have been playing this cute game called Meowdoku. It’s like Sudoku only instead of filling in numbers you have to uncover kitties under the right squares. It’s good!

Side note, I love that one of the posts here is speculating about “gay men becoming trans to sublimate attraction to men.” The tropes used for transhet women are often so very similar to the tropes used for trans men.

I also think it's possible that some transwomen are just gay men. I defo get this vibe with my neighbour who is a tough old school builder approaching retirement age. About a decade ago he apparently 'realised' he'd actually been a woman all along. I wonder if that's just a more palatable explanation for him being attracted to other men.

Hi all, I'm boosting my brother's crowdfund! He and his husband need to raise about $1200 to pay their rent and utilities for this upcoming month and to cover the costs of his husband's life-saving heart medications. They could really use the help!

Hi all,

I have an update from Joshua about some financial hardship he and his husband are going through. They need to raise at least $1200 to cover rent and medication costs.

"In November of 2025, I had to leave my current job for critical health reasons, causing my disabled husband and I to have to survive off savings until January of 2026.

My husband is on several medications he requires to live, which cost us between 750-900 a month out of pocket depending on which pharmacy has the best price. During that time, we went through most of our savings.

In 2026 I began working at a new company but was laid off without pay beginning on February 19th. Now, I am beginning new employment on 5/13 but we are dangerously behind on utilities and rent and at risk of not being able to fill his medication before I begin my new job.

Due to the loss of income over the winter and the depletion of our savings while unemployed, we need enough cash to pay utilities and purchase medication before new pay and benefits begin.

1200 dollars would allow us to catch back up with our back bills, keep his meds filled and let us get back on our feet in May."

Hi all,

I'm going to need some help with the next month. I've been getting more work, but it's not enough to keep up with all the costs we have right now. In addition, I'm dealing with serious depression that's making daily life extremely difficult.

The biggest cost I have to cover is about $1400 in back taxes. But we also need to have our car battery replaced, which is likely to be about $130.

I also need to buy new glasses, which should be just over $150.

I'm continuing to have a tough time making money. My functioning is getting better, but slowly enough that I'm worried about the winter, especially since Bear God may have fewer opportunities for work during December.

Hi everyone,

I've been going over our money situation, and here's where I'm at: I still owe about $1300 in back taxes, and I miscalculated my website renewal fee, which is about $360. There's a $240 bill I thought was going to be covered by insurance, too, but seems not to have been. If I keep my website active this month, I'm definitely going to be short on rent.

What makes all of this so tough is that in addition to being functionally unable to work for most of the summer, I was really hoping to be reimbursed by now for the nearly $3000 that we lost earlier this year due to a billing error. But I still haven't seen any of that money, and am worried now we may never get it back.

I'm setting a somewhat ambitious longer-term crowdfund goal of about $2450 for now, with the hope that I can raise enough to make ends meet this month and then start paying off the rest.

Thankfully, my mental health seems to be slowly but steadily improving, which means I should be able to bring in more money next month, but it's been a rough time getting there.

Any donations of any size would be hugely helpful right now. You all have been positively heroic in helping my partner and me keep a roof over our heads, and in being a light of hope for me while I've worked my way out of suicidal depression. Bear God also wants you all to know how sincerely and deeply they appreciate everything you've done for us.
