More likely this than whole heads of lettuce. Yes, even organic is vulnerable because it goes through the same processing facilities. When you mingle products they all get infected.
My bet is bagged lettuce. Why? because it is more fully automated and washed in bins together. Oddly head lettuce is less exposed to potential bacteria. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
Feeling pretty good about the ciabatta I made to day. First try. Better than the focaccia, which I'll work on.
Dinner!! Risotto with mushroom, leek, pancetta & pesto.
Look what is in the Crozet Gazette @gfitz.bsky.social

Peonies! Love I can buy them in the grocery and wow they smell amazing.
Rhubarb custard pie & strawberry rhubarb custard pie.
Heading to @aseh.bsky.social on Tuesday in KC. Two big announcements. The Food, Agriculture & the Environment SIG will meet Fri @ 7 am in Pavilion & @academic.oup.com Intersections Food section will be there (me!) Find me if you are interested in both or either.
Making the rabbit loins. Had some extra forcemeat so timbales. Had to use bacon because couldn't find caul fat or pancetta in my local markets.
I never thought I'd see wild fires from our house, but here we are with wildfires in the Monticello AVA of VA wine country. Fortunately no grapes yet let alone veraison so wine taint isn't a problem. This is the second year of fires so last fall was in drought. Picture by @gfitz.bsky.social
Why yes you can make forcemeat in a blender! Gonna make a saddle of rabbit with mushroom leek forcemeat. Also made Southern fried rabbit legs, which were amazing. Found it in the grocery on sale.
If you see this, we IMPLORE YOU to post a picture from whatever device you’re using without explanation.
Hazelnut butter balls!!! New recipe. Made with brown sugar with fine and course hazelnuts. Will keep this recipe.
And if I only could I'd make a deal with God And I'd get Him to swap our places Be runnin' up that road Be runnin' up that hill Be runnin' up that building Say, if I only could, oh
Mac & Cheese and Chex on massive sale at Harris Teeter and upscale brand of Kroger's collection of grocery stores. These are definitely cheaper than store brand, but they could be on sale as well. Thinking BigFood is feeling the pain of SNAP. Not a holiday sale, that will come next week.
As an American I find it both weird and wonderful to seem my neighborhood decked out for Halloween. Fire pits, bowls of candy & tents to greet the trick or treaters.👻👻🎃🎃🎃🎃
Confit!!! I wasn't willing to sacrifice my limited duck/goose fat so I used lard and rapeseed oil, which will be repurposed for other uses gradually. Will render the duck fat and add it to my stash for future use.
Feeling very fall so wild mushrooms (cauliflower mushroom & chanterelle) + spinach. Tossed with egg noodles, cream and bacon lardons.
Some recent meals. Poêeled chicken with lemon olives and fig and roasted young duckling stuffed with tea scented dried apricots, prunes & fresh figs with celeriac puree, potatoes roasted in duck fat and Sautéed chanterelles & peas. Fig and chanterelle season!!! Yay.
