Some of the kites being flown off Citadel Hill today were insanely high (this is my largely failed attempt to capture them…with the eye of faith one might make out a couple of tiny dots.)

Half the picture is occupied by incredibly blue sky, with low white cloud on the horizon and a wisp of white cloud very high up, over a public park with lawn, flower beds in bloom and tall trees in full leaf. A few people are walking around looking at the park and the sky. There is a kite festival taking place a few blocks away; most of the kites being flown are not visible but three very tiny white dots/lines are barely visible against the sky if you zoom in on the image.

For fancy shoes, I love Fluevogs. The generous toe bed and wide heel on a lot of them mean a truly surprising degree of comfort despite a bit of heel. I can do clinic all day and run to emergencies in them, and my feet don’t hurt.

A long day of operating today, but timing of case turnover meant I managed to catch the last few minutes of the livestream of Sarah Mullally’s installation as the first female Archbishop of Canterbury. 🥰

Some cool icicles seen on this morning’s walk to work.

Icicles coating and dripping off rhododendron leaves that protrude through a metal handrail on a house’s snow-covered front steps. A couple of the icicles hang straight down but the majority take off at a 45 degree angle and curve downwards nearer their tips.

A large mass of ice has formed near the ground by a corner of a building, where evidently the gutter above has a leak. An immediately adjacent, leafless bush has its top branches elegantly and thickly encased in clear ice, and myriad icicles drip from the lower branches, reaching for the ground. This is all lit beautifully by the morning sun.

Tree branches above the bush in the former photo; multiple thin icicles descend from the branches at an angle and curve down. The sky behind them is clear blue with a thin white cloud.

The Side by Side concert with Symphony Nova Scotia and the NS Youth Orchestra is about to start! They’re playing Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. 😊

Man, I wish the Long John Index guy was still around to provide comment.

Red pen has been used to write comments on the various provinces and territories based on the projected temperatures, eg “Feel free to keep the ice cream in the trunk” scrawled across the Yukon & NWT, “Did I plug the car in? Hope so!” on Alberta, “We got your windchill right here!” on Newfoundland. Various numbers and ratios are given under the map for multiple cities in Canada; I no longer remember exactly how it all worked, but it was essentially a 1-5 scale telling if you if you needed long johns (or how many pairs.)

I took the 80 bus to Bayers Road Shopping Centre in the mid-80s, browsed the stores with friends, occasionally bought a cute notebook with a horse, unicorn or Hello Kitty on it, or an Orange Julius. Once, bought this lovely little cloisonné ring that I still own. #nostalgia
