oh my god i was not prepared for these massive new 'welcome to california' signs @mcleantessa.bsky.social discovered: www.sfgate.com/california/a...
favorite easter egg in the new AD-FREE @sfgate.com app is the little greeting you get when you open the app. we wrote over 100 of these so you get a tiny bit of surprise and delight every time you open it.
I’m looking for recommendations for the best breakfast sandwiches in the ENTIRE Bay Area. Send me your favorites, either here or to grant.marek@sfgate.com. Will do my best to track the journey here, starting with Bay Area breakfast sandwich #1: Verve’s Breakfast Sandwich in Palo Alto. It is good.
Good news, MLB just released an expanded statement and it is something:
What a quote. More from @sfgate.com on Santa Barbara's historic rent freeze now facing a federal lawsuit: www.sfgate.com/centralcoast...
Oh you want me to make the Easter appetizer? Don’t threaten me with a good time!
We did not catch the leprechaun, but we DID learn a valuable lesson: NEVER take the plastic gold coin that was used to lure the leprechaun into the trap because you will awaken to your child in full tears writing a note to him to please return it in exchange for a leprechaun coat. 🤦♂️
Come for the poignant @drewmagary.bsky.social column, stay for the impressive accompanying art:
This might be the best quote I've ever gotten, manager at an Eagles bar in Philly talking about 49ers fans pranking the crap out of his bar. Good game day read if you're looking for one: www.sfgate.com/49ers/articl...
Today is the day I found out my 7-year-old daughter has been plotting for TEN months on a fool-proof leprechaun trap. She walked me through an extremely elaborate plan on our walk to school this morning to "finally get him on leprechaun day."
Oh hey. @sfgate.com won its first two Society of Professional Journalists awards ever this year, which is great, but what's better is our Senior Photo Editor Charles Russo sitting down to talk about the story behind one of the winners: our photo spread from the A's final game in Oakland.
Why do we do this? Because it’s awesome to spend more than $200 at an SF corner store that was absolutely not expecting it (plus even more at a great local bar and other great restaurants later on if we do the night right) and it might help them before the holidays ❤️
THEN we go to a local dive bar (Maggie McGarry’s!) and get drinks and exchange gifts, and the person with the funniest story of why they got their gift for their person wins the prize (shot of Fernet!)…
Then we go to a local corner store (@alexsimonsports.bsky.social suggested Grant and Green Market in North Beach) and you have to buy a gift and wrap it for your person for $10 or less…
We start at a bar we love, tonight was Specs. We put everyone’s names in a hat and pick someone we’re going to get a secret gift for…
🚨BEST DAY OF THE YEAR ALERT 🚨 For the 5th straight year at @sfgate.com we celebrated Corner Store Christmas! Here’s how it works…
Greatest perk of working at @sfgate.com is the Cal Band visits on the same Friday every year.
After piling another 150 giant candy bars on the checkout conveyor belt this year, the lady ringing me up at the supermarket goes 'you must be the fun house in the neighborhood?' moral of the story? never give up on your dreams.
we started going big on our decorations that year to try to raise the bar even more, and for the last three halloweens have listened to the ghostbusters theme song for 3 hours straight.
it had always been my dream to one day reach Mr. Rogers’ legendary halloween status. so in 2021 i did it, 50 huge ass candies which were stupidly expensive, which we gave away in like an hour, but had kids losing their minds. In 2022, we upped it to 75.
Wild combination today: Bergum's press office calls @ashleyharrell.bsky.social's @sfgate.com story about squatters and illegal BASE jumpers in Yosemite "FALSE" and then Bergum himself says says they're addressing those exact issues with "appropriate law enforcement action." 🤔
If we really want to solve male loneliness, we should require every male to join a local rec league basketball team, and then get all of the males on that team into a text group. Problem immediately solved.
we really need to bring back green day on lower sproul as a thing @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social 👇
