I used to listen to Atreyu's 'The Curse' on repeat as a teen, so I was massively touched when I casually mentioned that and Porter gave me one of his custom-made MTG cards.
I'm back in Metal Hammer this month, introducing Love Rarely, one of the most exciting new British bands I've heard in years. If you want to read a non-blurred version of how djent, gospel and generational trauma inspired the UK’s most exciting new post-hardcore band, 'Hammer 416 is on shelves now
I regret to inform you that I went full Tom Weebgan at Hyper Japan this weekend
... Luckily what I lack in Magic The Gathering knowledge I make up for with metalcore. Here's Atreyu soundchecking before their MagicCon show
My plane has just 'tapped the land' at Amsterdam Airport in time for MagicCon! (.... This is the only MTG reference I know, send help.)
Second case of my two worlds colliding this weekend at 2000 Trees festival is the legend rocking this badass Heracross bag. Spotted him a few times and we obviously immediately became best mates.
Still not over how good System of a Down were last week in Stockholm. Londoners, you're in for a treat.
A brilliantly insightful chat on the intersection of politics and games at the book launch tonight for Power Play. Massive congrats to @georgeosborn.bsky.social for (literally) writing the book on video games and politics, and shout out to book launch host extraordinaire @keefstuart.bsky.social
Ever wondered what happened to that cute little guy from EA's Unravel? Turns out he's been sent where all platforming mascots go to die, East Midlands Parkway train station 🕯️🙏
Blair is looking - and sounding - increasingly like Palpatine as the days go by.
Hahaha, it's officially under way and crowd is solid for a Friday afternoon! Apparently should hit 15k tomorrow and Sunday
Apparently Celine Dion is doing seven nights at this arena this summer, so Rocket League is now 1/7th of the size of Celine Dion. This will be the only metric I use to measure esports' popularity from now on.
The scale of the Rocket League Major tournament in Paris is something to behold
Nice to walk into Waterstones Piccadilly and randomly see a book you co-wrote protruding from the shelves (Game Changers)
Big fan of Hugh Grant paying to sponsor a seat at BAFTA just so he could insult Colin Firth
I'm back in EDGE magazine this month with more Orbitals goodness for your reading pleasure. Pleased to say that this issue is also 100% Gengar approved ✅
The gamers ™️ went to their first ever wrestling match and who just so happened to be opening? Video Gamer's @simonmiller316.bsky.social Princess Di was also there. 10/10 evening Ft @thequiffisdead.bsky.social
Happy to reveal that I wrote my first ever game! If you played 2025: Mosaic Retrospective you will have read my words, in the form of 100 different news stories. Mosaic is a chill puzzler that recaps the major events of each year, which shouldn't really be particularly controversial, but sadly...
This trip also taught me that I cannot paint within the lines, and that I should never pick up a paintbrush again.
This one goes out to those of you always asking me "Tom, what would you look like encased in chocolate carbonite??? " This is the last I will speak on this matter. Thank you for respecting my sweet, melty privacy during this tasty time.
It's been two weeks and I'm still not over the Clair Obscur concert. No screens showing gameplay, no gimmicks, just 10/10 music performed with the kind of kinetic showmanship that you usually get at a gig, not from a seated orchestra. Hands down the best gaming music event that I've attended.
