the moon unspools
a road nightly
upon the sea,
a long, bright
rung of silver
laid like a
dream
someday
I w i l l
w a l k
to the
end

How strange, my love,
that while I
face the night,
your sky ignites
with morning's
early burn,
one earth beneath
us spins from
dark to light,
where night and day
forever
chase and turn.
#vss365

Look here, in the grass
a thousand small
And trembling globes hang,
balanced, but unbound,
No bigger than a tear,
and yet they call
The entire heaven,
upon the ground.
#vss365

No border marks
the passage
of the swallow,
no treaty binds
the tide to
ask the shore;
the seed will cross
wherever wind
will follow,
and roots ignore
the lines that
maps have borne.
What line was ever
drawn to
govern whales?
So why this desk
to balance
us in scales?
#vss365

Loss was my jailer once,
her chains the night,
Yet through her very
headwind
did I break,
as larks ascend
when the night has
resigned to die.
~~~
No pain holds the one
who learns the sky's wide creed,
I am the wind now,
and the wind is freed!
#vss365
You are my headwind,
and i am
a sea bird
hung trembling there,
and pinned
above the sea,
held not by calm,
but by the
wind I wrestle,
no stillness but
the play of
you and me.
#vss365
A samara does not
grieve to
leave the bough;
it falls because
its falling
is the plan.
Some soft design
already
tells it how
to break, to root,
to grow
where it began.
So maybe nothing
truly
falls apart;
the tree still stands
through all
that will depart.
#vss365
So conquer grief
the way old trees
conquer years:
by growing rings
around those tears.
#vss365
Gréachán@greachan· Jul 12 The rooted oak,
most still of
living things,
In wide embrace
holds all that
moves and sings.
#vss365
It’s all so beautiful!
I think of the forest as the sea, grown green and still,
The mountain as the forest aged to stone,
Different faces, one breath behind them all.
One light, bent through leaf, wave,a stone,
with a million ways to shine
the same beautiful oneness, wearing the world like a robe.
So leaf, and root,
and every reaching vine
Conspire in one
slow ministry of green,
For revealing,
in their own changing shine,
What never otherwise
could well be seen:
That deathlessness
itself forever lies
Folded in everything
that blooms and dies.
#vss365
I WAS SEEN
I was rough ore no eye had weighed,
No mint had stamped, no hand had tried,
A mass of metal, unassayed,
Till you did look on me, and spied
What lay beneath my dross's guise,
And tenderly did melt me down,
Then, in the furnace of your eyes,
Did stamp me with a gentle crown.
#vss365
God
The stunning dawn has taught my heart to rise,
each beat rehearsing how to wear Your light.
I have been like rain poorly reflecting the sky,
or a river twisting from its hidden height.
When at last my dust soft-closes into grace,
the whole of spring will simply be Your face.
#vss365
The moon is
distant from the shore,
yet still the sea
leans towards its light,
so love, once bound,
forevermore
still rises,
stunning, out of sight.
#vss365
Before we met,
we were already one,
stunning shadows
cast by one fresh-risen sun.
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 25 I am a guess,
but my shadow is proof;
it lies on stone
like grain in wood,
like truth.
I flicker, translate,
dissolve in a blink.
It holds its shape
at the pressure’s brink.
Whatever cast me
cast it better.
#vss365
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 25 A single grain of evening found my tongue,
And named me the boy the brambles chose to spare.
The brambles kept the frightened prayers I flung
Like startled birds into the cooling air.
Though years have clothed my bones in steadier poise,
The weeds still know the smallness of that boy.
#vss365
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 20 I dream her where
the heather
meets the sea;
she stands so still
the tide forgets
its turning.
The stars are caught
within her
gentle gaze,
and one by one
they seem
to undo
the knots
that have
been tied
around
my
heart.
#vss365
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 20 It comes for me
in the dead of night,
in the dead of night.
I was visited
by death again.
Upon loss,
everything is quiet now.
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 20 Your hand.
The warmth of it.
The utter fact.
Peat holds everything it’s touched.
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 20 We are older than our bodies.
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 17 The fiend would have me think
the stream betrays
its source,
Yet gentle fire runs
so patient in
its course.
#vss365
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 15 Year by year
moss lays its soft mouth
against the cold face of stone,
and the stone,
ancient and indifferent,
slowly yields,
slowly blushes green.
This is how love works
across a distant field.
#vss365
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 14 I laid my darkness down in furrowed rows
And left it there for morning light to read;
The field would neither answer nor foreclose
But held it, as it holds a buried seed.
Gréachán@greachan· Jun 14 The bulb that hoards its fire through the long dark,
The spider-thread that fashions, from the dew
and empty air, its unimaginable arc,
For love is what persists when all falls through,
The warmth the frozen river hides and keeps,
The one flame that its own diminishment feeds.
I’m Struggling
Verse 1
Before I knew to need you, you had spread
the pasture out in green
and laced with dew,
each blade of grass a small and luminous thread
of grace, and at the still water’s edge, the view
gave back not ruin but the thing I feared
to hope for: to be loved, sought, cared.
Oak and ivy grow so intertwined
That storm nor frost can cleave their union part,
So nature’s roots bind fast your soul to mine,
and love blooms wild and green evermore,
one heart.
#vss365
I have been seeing since before I was born,
through muddy stones and root-dreams,
and the eyes of the animals and plants.
Ravens speak in the oak’s dark tongue,
the mist whispers its memory of falling water,
and I hear it all.
Because I am a green thing too,
living gently in sacred soil.
