This from @daveweigel.bsky.social is right on about the significance of an El-Sayed win for AOC 2028. I hadn’t appreciated how important it is for the presidential shadow primary.

Most important midterm race for setting up the 2028 primary is clearly Michigan.
If El-Sayed wins nom and general, progressives proved they can win a big swing state; El-Sayed instantly becomes one of the most prominent Dem senators, and advocate for AOC '28.

If El-Sayed wins nom and loses to Rogers, the center-left can (and will) blame the left for losing a MI Senate seat that's been blue since the 90s; El-Sayed becomes a cautionary tale of voting for a charismatic left-winger and handing the W to Republicans.

If Stevens wins nom and general, not much changes, but the left doesn't have a swing state story to tell.

If Stevens wins nom and loses to Rogers, the left can say: See? See? You idiots pulled out the stops for your candidate and she blew it.
Hand over the keys.
