Post a perfect album from the 90s. I'll just do one every time I see this prompts. Christine Lavin's "Please Don't Make Me Too Happy" A mixture of songs that contain humor and pathos om equal measure. Although, some songs like Jane or Scatter New Seeds didn't really hit until after I was 40.
So... this is Judi Bowker in a costume for her roll as Andromeda in 1981's Clash of the Titans. Andromeda is the daughter of Cepheus, who is the king of Aethiopia. Sort of modern day Sudan-ish? Looks like she would have been a Nubian woman. Just something I found out today.
Side note, has a historical couple ever carried so much "We have a podcast" energy?
Was showing @droewyn.bsky.social this image I saw yesterday that has some proof that Agatha Christie is AI and she spotted two more things. Agatha Christie used emdashes, not this but that, triplets, and action and dialogue being on different lines. 4 major AI hallmarks on one page - CONFIRMED!
Athena is always depicted with her helmet pushed up back on her head, which makes me think she should sound like a trucker. "Now listen here Odysseus, what you wanna do, you wanna git yourself down to Sicily, hang a left and then head straight over to Ithaca and don't be stoppin' to annoy anyone."
How do you fuck up so bad you don't put the actual best album of 1984 on here?
I know it's been bugging you as much as it was me, maybe even more so. The Last Judgment on the wall of Scrovegni Chapel is the fresco I was thinking of.
There is a scene in Pasolini's The Decameron where the painter has a dream about a fresco. The image is based on a real church mural, but I can't remember what church. I have determined it's not at the Basilica of Santa Chiara, which is where the movie has him painting. It's driving me nuts.
Sword in question. It is just over 4 foot long and is probably meant for use on horseback. I learned to use it on foot because I am allergic to horses. But I guess I can still fuck up any Landsknechts that come to bother us.
In The Golden Spiders, by Rex Stout, Nero Wolfe provides some great advice about running into words you don't know.
Only one version of The Odyssey really matters. If it wasn't made for $20.78 for the Hallmark Chanel then I DON'T WANT IT!
I've always had a great amount of affection for this drawing. Mostly because that guy with the fork is just having a good day. He's singing a little song to himself, thinking about how he's going to play with his dog after work. He just woke up in a good mood this morning.
The bulb these are from must be 15 by now. When she planted them people told her she'd need to dig up the bulb every year or the tulips wouldn't bloom. She said that sounded stupid and left them. And she's been dead 10 years, but they keep coming up every spring. You can leave the bulbs.
Going with Viggo Mortensen in The Prophecy (1995) Understated, full of menace, and one of the few incarnations to express indifference in human affairs rather than malevolence.
