My partner surprised me with non-EdFringe fun last night. Dragging me halfway across the city in mysterious curiosity. Turns out m, it was a tasting menu eat-along screening of the movie Chef at Patina out in Edinburgh Park. Seriously. Do this.
I’m fundamentally baffled by the utter insanity of “big business” in all the major entertainment industries not understanding basic business principles like, “skilled workforce” or “brain drain”. Unless this really is just the last move of “pile the gold in the boat before the dragon arrives”
Encountered this heinous lascivious act occurring in broad daylight. Won’t someone think of the children? #DoggyBees.
Also this made me chuckle (yes it’s an unfinished deleted scene) but them not having painted out the stedicam is amusing.
It’s weird that this was shot by Ridley Scott and lensed by John Mathieson and yet some of it just lacks the “magnificence” of the original film. Like… this party scene, it’s just… drab looking in terms of composition. Did Ridley get Jake to shoot this bit? Honest question.

So having watched both Villeneuve Dune films over the last two days, of course… I am tonight watching Lynch’s Dune. Help. But it is damn lovely to look at.
Finally finished reading this. Look… I don’t say this lightly. But I’m starting to think this movie was a bad idea.
Somehow… I’m watching Revolution of the Daleks. It’s better than I remember, although tbh I kind of watched the specials and the entire Flux season in one go over a week. So it all flows into one in my head. This guy is still a waste of Noth’s acting skills and a pretty duff villain.
In other news, I continue to have fun carving things from wood in my spare time. Am getting much better at not cutting my own fingers.
In happier news, my Romanesco looks lovely. Grow things, seriously, Hobbits knew what they were doing.
I don’t really know you too well. But regardless, I hope you’re doing ok, and today hasn’t been too hard. Also here is my partner’s dog Alf, having a good sleep. He cheers me up.
Not at GDC, but #WhataGameDevLooksLike I’m a game writer, scriptwriter and narrative designer. Been working in games dev for about 5 years and worked as an editor and a writer in games journalism for a decade before that. Also I don’t actually do “sportsball” but life brings you to unusual places.
Got hold of copies of the Games Narrative Kaleidoscope. Feels so nice to have it in my hands! You too could enjoy this books goodness, and many wisdoms.
No matter how bad things can get in this world, sometimes you just need to have a dog nearby, and things seem ok. I love my partner, but in many ways I adore their goodest boi even more.
This is very true. It’s a balance of being assured in your own opinion, justifying it through good critique, and understanding that knowledge is an asset. But also that none of these things is the be all and end all of being a critic. Constructivity should be the foundation.
In regards to the whole Mandelson scandal, in a weird way I kind of understand the logic of Starmer sending him to The US as Ambassador. I think it was an awful idea, but I am reminded of the old Vulcan proverb.
