“Grossly normal intellect”
It was part of a omnibus issue of stamps by Commonwealth members for the London Exhibition of 1980.
Yay! I got my first postcard via Postcrossing! From Singapore… It checked all the boxes- stamp theme, cool stamps and written by fountain pen and they specified the pen and ick. Gotta up my card game.
Marc is making a test pie out of the Michigan blueberries we got last weekend. The crust is largely rye flour and we banished sugar in favor of allulose. Which is a sugar which is small amounts figs and raisins. Looks, tastes and bakes like sugar but doesn’t spike your glucose. Also, yum!
This is one of my better catches on shortwave, and one of my more unusual QSL cards, in that it was actually a postcard with a stamp. Most of my cards were mailed under separate cover along with other stuff.
This is probably my favorite QSL. Sadly, the envelope it came in was even cooler- but disappeared with much of my shortwave radio ephemera. I think it got pitched when my folk moved in the late 90s. It wasn’t Uzbekistan as such at the time and it seemed so exotic.
Radio was fun when I was younger because of the Cold War. East Bloc stations wanted to be heard in the west and were good at verifying reception reports. I loved the look of the cards from the Soviet Union.
So, why the interest in Postcrossing and correspondence in general? I come by it honestly. From the age of 10 or so, I’ve been into DXing- that is listening to distant radio stations. Part of the hobby involves QSL cards. The pics are of a card that an 11 year old me received from Radio Tirana.
I worry that this might be it for my irises this year. They seem stunted. I did do some substantial work on the beds this year.

I got down on the floor to give Tinker some pets. May have to call the fire department to get assistance getting back up.
On Fridays we relax and listen to the Don Was Motor City Playlist on WDET. …and look at my groovy new ceiling lighting…
Now, it’s frosting! It was nerve wracking because for a long time it did not look like frosting at all.
It is done. Now the hard part. Ermine frosting, which I have never made before. Seems a bit fiddly. Also, my oven really needs to be leveled. Things tend to slide to one side.
More extreme weather tonight, so tuned my handheld to the weather radio band. Stumbled upon the Canadian Weather Radio out of Windsor/Essex. Actually, the final days of Canadian Weather Radio. It is being shut off later this month. People is remote areas are gonna regret this.
My current tech diversion. A Deepelec DP-666, multiband DSP radio. Bought it on a lark, but I really like. It is receiving WRMI, Radio Miami International.
